How do I increase my Torrent download speeds?

Ive tried most programs and it seems like azureus is best for me.

How can i make it so my downloads go faster? I have 2.2 mbps DSL with no router or firewall. I do have a router if it would help lol.

with i can get about 18 of 1060 seeds .... my speeds would go up if i could get more seeds. my current DL rate is 20-30 kbps. How can i make it so i connect to more peers?

The amount of seeds definetly affects it. Something else you can try is go to tools-> options-> connection and make sure your NAT works. Also, under connection, go to advanced network setting. What is your max outbound connections? Did you auto set your MTU? Also go to transfer. What are your settings?

are you behind any kinds of routers and firewalls? i basically disabled my firewall on a linksys router completely on my 6mb cable connection at school, that and made sure all ports were still forwarded correctly to my computer. im usually in the 250KB/s range andhigher, rarely ever lower than 100KB/s though

i had a bad problem last year with dsl and the same router, bittorrent had too many connections and the router started to get overloaded, meaning my internet (web browsing mainly) was basically dead.

try using Utorrent also if you havn't already. i like it much better than azureus.

it may take a few hours but then you can find your most perfect balance between upload and download

aaa the miracle of utorrent, not to mention it loads in about no time at all.

btw, check your system mem usage with utorrent :p:

who cares that it eats ram at times, it does a wonderful job at what is important. :rolleyes:

i care, and i know others that do, but for me, less ram ends up having less startup time, which was another huge plus going to utorrent, besides the speed of downwloads

my mobo has 2 ethernet ports... is there a way i can have my computer directly connect to the internet through 1 ethernet port, and then supply internet to my wireless router via the other ethernet port?

At most, 80% of your maximum if you wish to use your internet for more than just uploading. So in your case, up to 40 KB/s.

This could just be coincedence though, and that's what makes the efficiency of bittorrent programs so hard to test. All it takes is one lucky connection to a peer who's willing to send 100+ KB/s and the speed is very different.

You can expect it to add a few ms in latency at worst, because the data has to go through an extra device. But unless you have a broken or downright cheap router, download/upload speed should be unchanged.

Assuming you didn't forward the ports bittorrent needs for proper connections, yes it's normal.

That should be possible, but makes little sense. You'll want the router in front, because it gives quite a bit of security.

You really shouldn't use the default port for listening, quite a few ISPs cap it. Just pick a random high one (10000-65535) and forward it.

Firstly, you can easily max out your connection.
Use CableNut from testmy.net (vanburen's settings).
Then forward ports on your router/firewall/gateway device.
Then open up a hole in your client.
Then switch to uTorrent.
Then subscribe to a private tracker (such as bitsoup, I can help you here with invites, PM me, anybody else also).
Then seed, keep a ratio of 1.

Oh and also, keep your upload maxed at about 20 KBps. There is a reason for this. Google. YES IT DOES INCREASE DOWNLOAD SPEED!

Not 20kb/s, use settings that correspond to your max upload speed.

Then, pick a port in Azureus (I use a high one between 10000-65535), and forward it.

Port Forwarding, select your router, then Azureus (http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm)

Also in your router, you can play around with settings...you know your IP? For torrents it's best to have it static (always the same) because then port forwarding works. I find that it's better to let your router to assign you the same one, rather than use windows.

So go to your router (probably 192.168.0.1 in your address bar, user admin, password blank (or whatever).) And find where it says DHCP. Set your computer's mac address to a SET IP, and in windows make it "automatically detect IP". Your router will always set the same IP. Then forward your azureus port, and then go to your router firewall settings and forward the port thru your IP.

It's not uTorrent, you don't have the max connection paramters setup right and it's crashing the modem.

BRB going to put my modem under LN2.

By the way MTU = Maximum transmit units. Usually 1500 I believe, but there are programs on the net which test your connection and can reccomend yo uraise it/lower it.
