View Full Version : How much improvement would i see?
Right now I have a Pentium 4 Northwood @ 2 GHZ
1 GB RAM
GeForce 6200 PCI
The 6200 PCI is 64 bit and is 350/400 mhz 128 MB and DDR
How much performance increase would I get if i bought this card
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814129069
As you can see that PCI card is WAY better than the 6200 with higher clocks 128 bit, 256 MB, GDDR2.
But would my cpu still be too much of a bottleneck to see improvement on source games over the 6200?

You will probably get a lot of the same answer. I would not bother - even though it is a relatively cheap swap. Even though it isn't a lot of money it still will not get you acceptable results and its just a little more that you could put away for a new build when you are ready.
hmm how am I chanhing a 6200 for a 6200 thats the x1300 and its much better than the 6200 but it still crap pci
high clocks than 6200 double the bit interface double memory and gddr2

I was replying before you edited your post. Your original link did not work.

well, talking about that low range cards, you're going to obtain better performance, but don't expect to play lastest games even in mid quality settings.
I don't think your CPU will make a bigger bottleneck 'cause that cards are not a chance even for your old P4 :D .
It will be a difference, but don't expect nirvana :P
I just want to run CS Source at more fps then I have now.
Right now I have CS Source set at
at 1024x768 and these settings
http://www.shoutupload.com/image-upload/uploads/222.png
fps can go as low as 20 in like dust 2 30 ppl server
and im wondering if i got the x1300 i could put texture to high and get more fps or just keep same settings with more fps
or would my cpu prevent the fps even with the x1300

actually, if you set shader detail and shadow detail to medium or low, you will gain better performance, 'cause your card has really poor shader and vertex engines.
The same thing will occur in X1300, but that 128 Bits in memory interface will help in some way.
Two cards are relatively poor in resources.

You'll probably get more decent fps in mid settings with the x1300.
Recommendations for CS:S is
2.4 GHz or higher processor, with 512 MB of RAM, a 128 MB DirectX 9 graphics card.
As you expected, the CPU will bottleneck your gaming experience
to an extent.
However, ATi cards are known to be less dependent on the CPU in comparison to its
opposite nvidia variant, thanks to their drivers.
So like how much boost would i get and setting shader and shadow to low makes it look crap
but like how much boost would I get on the same settings I have now with the x1300?
and source is a very cpu dependent game also

it's hard to say what will happen exactly if you install x1300 with same settings and same base platform. I think you will see some boost in performance but shader detal, water reflection and shadow detail will always play against performance in your system.
Ocing CPU and VGA will help you a lot.
well water is barely in any maps.
do you think it will give me a 10-15 fps boost? with the same settings
specs would be
2 GHZ northwood p4
1 GB RAM
PCI X1300
i cant oc my cpu even though i know the pll the system hangs

if you have AGP or PCIe you can get a much better upgrade with a 7600gs or a x1600xt and for a lower price

Would like answered ^^
and if I had AGP or PCI-e there would be no way in hell I would geta PCI card

what is that a Socket 478 Northy? and is the ram 184 or 168 pin?
yea its 478 its pc3200 ram not sure about pin though pretty sure its 184 pin
i know i cant upgrade anything else unless i geta new cpu
i just care about gpu now
il eventually get a c2d e6600 some 680i sli board with an 8800GTX but now
i need gpu for what i have now

this is probably a loony suggestion but

+
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814127164R
for just a couple dollars less than what you priced out above
but if you can squeeze out $20 a 6800XT is a option
and not sure how I woulf it a new mobo in my dell case but that would possibly work then but how can i fit that mobo in my dell case =/ and I wouldent have an OS =/
again
do you think it will give me a 10-15 fps boost? with the same settings

I doubt it
doubt what? the 10-15 fps boost
and am i right about the mobo not being able to go in my dell case

couldn't say.
read http://www.formfactors.org/developer%5Cspecs%5Catx2_1.pdf
and then open up your case and look
if it is micro-atx or ATX, then no worries it should fit just fine

I think this would be a good cheap card: http://www.galaxytech.com/Product_Details.asp?id=112&class1=3&class2= (can't be found on Newegg - look for it somewhere else) ;)
that would also bring psu problems
I think I should just get the x1300
just how much boost would I expect to see in fps wise
max I have to spend on anything is $200

crazy upgrade idea:
mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813138264 $59.99
Proc http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103567 $55.99
Optional:
GPUhttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814143049 $84.63
Total: $115.98 ($200.61)
because the onboard chipset will be a minor step up
http://www.sudhian.com/index.php?/articles/show/NVIDIA_GeForce_6100_Overview_and_Biostar_T-Force_6100-939_Review/testing
and make future upgrades cheaper.
I am however assuming that the PSU in your Dell is atleast 400w.
If you could, open it up and check. Thank you
not really an option
so I guess since the x1300 wont give me a boost. ill wait to build my
e6700
8800GTX
680i sli mobo
2 GB corsair dominator
250gb sata/WD
OcZ 750W
