View Full Version : dx9 cards vs. dx10

Ive noticed the x1950xtx and 8800gts are about the same in terms of performance. so based on performance there is no reason for me to sell my x1950 for a g80 series card. But when considering the fact that the g80 cards support dx10 is that reason enough to upgrade? It wouldn't cost me hardly any thing to upgrade so I'm wondering if I should do it just so my rig is more future proof?

dave, dont even bother with the DX9 cards now they are a waste of time/space/money... the way I see it its dx10 or nothing right now.

g80 is well ahead or r580 so they DO NOT have same performance. if you can do it cheaply then definitely upgrade now. thats what I did, sold x1900 and paid a little for g80.

any r580 card has nothing to do in terms of performance compared with g80. They DO NOT HAVE same performance, there is a big difference in any dx9 game. If you ask for upgrade, u must wait for a while, because g80 it's in an early stage yet, and r600 is coming, which will make things differents.|

how can justify saying that? there isnt a single game out there that supports DX10. who knows how well these cards will do under real dx10.

Simple you just compare the specs - you don't need DX10 for that - just take a High End card like ATi X1950XT and compare it whit Nvidia GF 8800GTX (brute force) :fact:.
Have to agree whit Mephisto it's better to wait for now since R600 isn't out, plus I don't like early versions, on the other hand you might get a better price for your card if you sell it now - because prices will drop when R600 is out. :woot:

But you're comparing a $250 card to a $600, which is a 140% increase in price, for maybe 25% increase in performance due to "brute force". And do we even know how long it will take for affordable DX10 cards to come out? If it is a long while, maybe the x1950xt is the way to go.
Edit: Oh, and let's not forget the $100-300 dollars you'll be spending on Windows Vista to get your DX10, depending on which version.
