Here is a good link to a page in Wikapedia that covers most of what you need to know about Torches and Gases. As different countries have different codes and standards their is a "warning" on top of page: neutrality on this page is disputed, read TALK PAGE.

Keep in mind WIKAPEDIA is not Professionally edited for accuracy & different torches are called by different names in different parts of the world. The Talk PAGE is mostly "a single personal opinion" or practices.most dispute is whether to turn off acetylene or oxygen first, as the original post was edited and changed by a user then changed back.Remember wikapedia is written by users "unknown sources" in many cases & "May present opinions or life long practices as fact".

In any Case....... you follow torch manufactures instructions over wikapidia.

This page is primarily on 2 gas Torches (2 bottles, 1 fuel & 1 oxidizer),set ups and procedures but single gas is also mentioned.

A 2 gas torch should have one-way check valves at the torch handle hose connections to prevent back-flow of either gas & flashback arrestors at the beginning of hose usually screwed into the regulators. This is accepted set up by OSHA in the USA.

A properly set up system, is safe to use.

It's titled: OXY-FUEL welding & cutting

TAKE TIME to READ ENTIRE TEXT AVAILABLE,right after the introduction there is a box with 14 numbered headings ,many with sub-headings,click on and read all these also & read, safety is #8 to #8.6 but read entire text available on original linked page & all headings as described above and below. There are also many other related links in "BLUE" that you may want to read for additional information.

Be sure on main page to click & read title below on main page, because of the dangers of this gas, learn how its produced ,bottled, stored and transported, under heading of:

ACETYLENE: How acetylene is made is described at Acetylene#Preparation

Below link is a pretty good A to Z coverage of this subject if you take time to read entire text...........READ IT, no matter what torch you intend to buy or are using.

Note to moderators: After reading This post & links contained,I believe you should discuss whether to put this post entirely or part of in "guide section" under :2 gas Torches ,Gases & Safe use.

Link works for me no matter what browser I use.

AS Always ,No 1 safety rule (they are all #1) if unsure about anything, anything at all, that even gives you pause to question safety,or possible dangers and you are not sure. STOP........And ask either here or some where or some one who you are confident will give you correct advice.Do not proceed to you are sure of what you are doing.

I teach my employees ,"before and every time you move a muscle in any way, be sure of what the outcome of that action will be or don't proceed".

That can be any thing your hands ,feet or body can do(turn valves ,work tools etc, etc) to some as simple as taking a step or lean inadvertently in the wrong direction in a dangerous environment . You must constantly assess the environment your in and the dangers around you, plus the potential dangers your actions may cause. The list is endless. So always beware stop and think!!!!! It's actions without considering the full consequences that may severely hurt or kill you.

every one go read the last post I made in the ln2 section, the person never thought of the scenario or he would not have done it, as I see gloves on his desk. His actions "possible" could have caused the amputation of both hands.
