I just got an extra power bill of $700, and I already pay $200 every quater. So now it's time to save some energy :-)

The question is.. Does disabling SLI via Control panel make one GPU go into halt state and not use power? Or do I have to yank it out?

if u disable SLI via control panel the card will still be using power consumption (even cooler fan will be still working). Just remove it from MB to ensure it is not using power anymore.

ok.. i'm guessing it'll be using less power then?
