I'm planning on using this for gaming, and hopefully I'll be able to get a hefty overclock on it also.

The most important part though, is the being able to upgrade to quad core at some point in the near future, and when that time comes, I'll upgrade my graphics card as well... *waits for the QX6700 to become affordable*

Anyway, this is what I have so far:

Motherboard Asus P5B Deluxe - £114
Processor Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 - £112
RAM G.Skill PC2-6400 HZ - £241
Case Antec 900 Ultimate Gamer - £73 OR Antec P180 - £90
Graphics Card XFX GeForce 7900GT - £106
Hard Drive Seagate Barracuda 9 160GB - £41
Optical Drive Samsung SATA DVD-RW - £25
Mouse Logitech G7 Gaming Mouse - £51
Keyboard Saitek Eclipse II - £28
PSU Silverstone ST60F 600W - £89
Monitor Hanns-G 19" TFT - £118

And that nice lot comes in at just a shade under a grand, I suppose my maximum budget is about £1200 (Including P&P)

Should I get the P180, or the 900 for that setup?

Any suggestions on getting more performance for my cash, or any bad experiences with any of this hardware would be appreciated. But I think it should all be cool, I've spent enough time researching...

Thanks, Dan.

P.S. Cooling is coming from my current PC in the form of a Scythe Ninja and a few 120mm fans.

You did researched well
But I do have a suggestion grab the Silverstone SST-ST75ZF to future proof your rig and spend a little extra for E6400 to maximize your OC

I shall seriously consider the SST-ST75ZF, it got some decent review, and seems to be a worthwhile investment, thanks.

Not going to go for the E6400 though, because the plan is to go quad core when the price drops somewhat, and multi core gaming really gets somewhere.

Thanks for the suggestions, Dan.

What are you looking for in a case? The p180 is for people who want silence, and the 900 is for lots of air cooling.

Well, ideally, I want something that looks reasonably snazzy, is reasonably quiet AND does decent cooling...

I'm hinging towards the P180, but I don't know if it'll keep my E6300 cool enough [at 2.8GHz+] with a scythe ninja and 120mm fan [can't find the link to what kind it is, but its got a decent CFM number and is almost silent.

And is it worth the extra ~£20 over the 900?

It is very easy to keep good temps on E6300 @ 2.8GHZ even with stock cooling
Edit : I thought you were aiming at 3.6+GHZ that is why I suggested E6400

2.8GHz was a base figure, I'm going to try for higher than that, but that would be the minimum.

I'm not going too high though, because I'll probably have that PC on 24/7, as is this one.

[I'm a bittorrent hog :p]

Lets make a mid of the way guess at 3.2 gigs. Either case will be fine. The 900 will keep it all nice and cool easily, and the p180 will keep it cool and silent, it will be higher temps than the 900 but they will still be within reasonable numbers

Okay, thanks :)

EDIT: Does anyone know if cables from either of my psu options are long enough for the p180 and p5b combination?
