View Full Version : Ok, weird. Diablo 2 is jerky with my 8800 GTX...

Yeah it runs high power graphics just fine but my one "old-school" game, Diablo 2 expansion, behaves like crap. This is most noticeable when a character runs, there is a slightly jerky advance of the background. When standing still, surrounding animations seem ok, but running is annoying enough to give you a headache. Anyone have any thoughts?

I also have a problem running old games, I think it's the driver.
In UT2004, sometimes I get jerking and rarely it will crash.
New games run great though...

Is Vsync on or off?

I pray that Diablo2 isn't the primary game you play... What a waste for a G80. It is sprite based, right?
Anyway, where do we draw the line? Should we expect Nvidia to write DOS drivers for Wing Commander now?

No, I also play minesweeper and hearts.

And yes, D2 is sprite based. ;)

Notice my very first comment:
"one of my old school games" could mean that you only play "old school" games, so my assumption was based upon that.
I guess I just find it odd that people play games that are many years old. I can barely handle a game that is a few months old before I get bored.
Just outta curiosity: How many years old are ya?

No man,
my one "old-school" game
not "one of my old school games"...;)

No problem, its the first thing that comes to mind. I've had that same problem playing SNES games with my emulator. The foreground action is fine, but as the background pans its very jerky. Vsync ON fixes it for me. It will be especially more noticeable in the older games, or any game that will run at a very high framerate.

Try with VSync on. Such things can be technically just image tearing. Even my 1900xtx gives me image tearing in the form of lagging, jerkiness, stuttering or choppiness often making games unplayable.
Increase the monitor refresh rate to the max possible, if that doesn't correct it, try VSync.
