Ok, I can get an NEC FP2141SB-BK Black 22" CRT Monitor for free, perfect condition on unlimited loan if I want to go to the trouble of making a trip to get it over Christmas.
Here's the thing on the Egg:

Here's my question:
It's an analog RGB connection. Does this hamper the ability of my 8800GTX to give me its best? The CRT runs 2048x1536 @ 86Hz, btw, probably a good SLI candidate...

Weight - 65.7 lbs

You have a desk that can handle that?

Looks like a nice monitor.

IDK about the RGB thing. If you can get 4 free, then try it out with the converter and see what you think.

I have to drive to Chicago to pick it up. 6 hours one way. That's why I ask prior to making day long trip. I was wondering if anyone has gone the converter route and has some feedback on quality.

I run 2 crts side by side and love it. I have one Samsung Syncmaster 957mb and one horrible dell 17" basic CRT. I love the Samsung and it runs primary for me becuase in my opinion the text and picture quality of high end CRTs cannot be beat. Back to the point though, i run the syncmaster through a converter on my x800 pro and still the image quality is amazing. Text is crisp, contrast is awesome and color/picture quality is great. The only real piece of advice i can give you is to go get the monitor (its free pc gear how can you turn that down) and try it out. If you dont like it you can always throw it in the closet as a backup in case your primary monitor goes on the fritz.

Yes, indeed. Go get the CRT, and if you dont like it you can make a nice profit by selling it ;)

I have one of those monitors and it kicks ass. I would definately drive 6 hours one-way to get a free and new condition one of them.
