What size range are you looking for?

Widescreen or standard?

Widescreen, at least 22, and hopefully under 800 bucks

Best 22" Widescreen currently is the Sceptre x22wg at about $350.

Best 24" Widescreen currently is the BenQ FP241W right at $800. Second I would choose Samsung and Dell.

There is a significant jump in price between the two sizes. You can get 2 22" screens for the price of a single 24", but you aren't just paying for another 2 inches - you are getting a different panel and usually a lot better stand and input options.

This is from my own personal research, hope it helps.

Soul, I've been hearing some bad things about dark colors on the x22wg, can you comment on that?

If its calibrated properly it doesn't have problems. Mine looks great, minus the viewing angle problem. Once you get past that its a great monitor.

What exactly did you hear?

I've been hearing some bad things about dark colors on the 22" Sceptre x22wg, can you comment on that? The 22" Sceptre is now on sale from Costco.com thru all of January 2007 for $299.99 (with a $30 online rebate). Costco rebates are fast, too. I got mine within two weeks.

I now own two of these bad boys - they're awesome. Soulburner's right: correct calibration is the thing. The wobbly stand that comes with it is really the only gripe many have. But check out my Post #57 on HardForum (http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1111713&page=3&pp=20) for an elegant and cheap solution to that.

BTW: If you don't like it for any reason, take it back to any Costco warehouse nationwide and they refund every penny - even your shipping! (The first of mine had two stuck pixels. I took it back, got my full refund - no questions asked - and ordered a replacement. Try that anywhere else.) :)
