1) DVDDecrypter (http://www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/);
2) SmartRipper (http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/smartripper.cfm);
both are freeware, but they can only rip and can't decode... and for decoding i can offer AutoGK (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/AutoGK.htm).

Thnaks for the suggestions. Late last night i found some software by cucusoft. It will covert pretty much any vid file into a zune capable format, as well as DVD directly to zune format. Unfortuatley, it was $40.

Well now im REALLY grateful for the suggestions. The software i bought crashes every time i try to use the dvd part of it. I emailed their support. So now im gonna try using DVD Shrink, and AutoGK to get video from my DVDs, then use the converter part of the software i bought (which works well it seems) to get the damn things to my zune. It shouldnt be this hard. Why couldnt they just integrate DVD ripping into the zune software?

You could also try RipIt4Me as your decoder, then through AutoGK...... RI4M is constantly updated to take new copy protections into account.

Shrink is ok for older stuff but does not do alot of the newer dvds. Use dvdfab...it works on everything and is as fast as shrink. Also A1copy works well.

I tried DVD Shrink for the first time last night. It worked great, I copied just the main movie to an ISO and burned it with Nero. I can't tell the difference in quality on our TV.

DVD Fab can only copy the movie in 1:1 mode so it wanted to make 2 discs.

play_title from the libdvdread package works well for me.

Reliably gives me mpg files from DVDs.

I made a modification that can skip bad sectors. Even on broken Netflix DVDs I can usually recover the whole movie with just a couple seconds missing. Essential Netflix tool :)

I just don't understand people, Netflix, used blockbuster/gamestop games. Nobody can take care of their damn discs WTF!?...................Mine look pretty much brand new even if they're years old.......:confused:

Use DVDFab then use DVDshrink to shrink it down.

My personal programs are DVD Decrypter, DVDFab, DVDShrink and AnyDVD.

Also DVD Decrypter can skip bad sectors too.

Most of the showstopper damage I see on Netflix comes from shipping, pending in particular.

It's part of the Netflix system, hard boxes would increase cost too much.

What I do is that I "cache" Netflix DVDs to my harddrive. When I get them in the mail I rip them so that I know right away whether they are broken or not. That way I detect broken DVDs long before I watch the movie. In most of the cases a Netflix replacement arrives before I actually want to watch the stuff.

Disclaimer: I don't keep the rips, never. If I like it I buy it for $1.19 on half.com. Cheaper than a double-layer blank :)
