Hey,

I've got a Scythe Ninja Rev B and I've been trying to cool my PD950 at 4.4Ghz, 1.36V, but it's getting incredibly ridiculous. My temperatures are 55C idle, 72C full load. My stock heatsink ran better than this Ninja, which is not supposed to happen. I'm using AS5 and I have the CPU lapped to 400 grit paper. I couldn't find 600, and thought 400 was enough to just flatten the IHS. the AS5, I drew a thin line down the middle and then set the ninja on top of the CPU, then moved the heatsink in a circular motion, then up/down/side-side, clipped it in, and turned my computer on..

For all who tell me this is what I'm supposed to get, my friend's big typhoon runs his PD950 at 4.5Ghz, 1.47V, at 50-68C. He can run higher volts, and get slightly cooler temperatures.... the Scythe Ninja isn't that far behind the Big typhoon... is it? Can anyone help me? Is there anything I can do?

If your stock is beating your Ninja, then you have something set up wrong. You have bad contact. Make sure the ninja isn't resting on components around the socket.

Hmm... didn't think of that. If it does end up being that though, is there anything I can do? or am I screwed?

If base is contacting stuff around the socket then you could dremel a bit of the base away and relap the heatsink.

I don't believe it's touching anything, is there anything else that could cause this?

If your stock works and the Ninja doesn't, there are really two possibilities:
1. The Ninja is defective (very unlikely)
2. You have poor contact (much more likely).

Remount the Ninja. Look at your thermal paste. Do you have too much? Too little? Does anything look wrong? Are you even close to any components? Is the Ninja solidly in place? Is the base of the ninja flat? Is the processor flat?

Hmm... I'll remove the heatsink and check again. I've reapplied AS5 about 3 times, and it seems like I really can't get the right amount on this thing. I think I'll just wait it out if this next time doesn't work till I get some thermal that intel uses. it's much easier and just as effective as AS5

Probably you have just put too much AS5.

Already did that and my CPU become very hot, really hot.

yeah, the AS5 is really ticking me off cause I can't seem to apply the right amount....

the silver content stuff to me isn't worth the extra 1c you might get vs Arctic Alumina...good stuff imo, non metallic, easy to apply and clean, doesn't "set up" and get flakey. I think speederlander is correct its likely the sink isn't seated quite right or poor contact due to uneven surfaces.

I think most often "less is more" with the paste.

apply it with a razor blade make a super thin layer. and btw ceramique is the best and you get 22 grams at the egg for like $10

heh I make a mini spatula out of a strip cut from an old cc with a little bend at the end lol

isn't the ceramique like a phase-change tim?

yeah i use a vapoli but it is also for regular uses it just has a lower freeze point i have tubes of just about everything and i always reach for the ceramique. it seems to go on thinner and i like thin.

i mean doesnt the ceramique need to heat up (thermal phase change)and then it changes consistency??
