View Full Version : F@H and their race

i was lookin in the F@H section today and saw they are in aheated race for 10.5mill against TPR. i think that a bunch of guys for our team should go over and give them a boost in order to beat TPR. once that is done they could come back and resume our quest to beat easynews. some of us would stay here and hold down the fort and keep us over one mill in the dailies. so mabye someone should create a rooster (purely voluntary) for people to stay and people to go and help xs beat TPR.
i for one could go ether way (stay or go help) but i would only be able to put a bit more towards there effort because of the location of most of my rigs.
we need to act fast as they are running out of time.

Currently helping QMC@H try to fend of Planet 3DNow! until this Friday when I'll be putting my rig back onto WCG, wish I had more cores to throw at the problem but too many projects and not enough computing power. Time to write a client for my TI-83.

I sent out a couple pms and got a few replies. We really do owe them for our D2OL push and Rosetta push. As of right now, they are the #41 producer in the world. I think we should make the push for top 10. I have all my rigs going on it currently (even a new AMD 4000 (single core) running only @ 2.5 because of ram :( ). This can only help us because when we have our race for 1 with Easynews, they will probably be willing to help us in return.

If you did this, I would hijack everyones calculator.:bananal: I bet in a year or so a TI-83 would finish a F@H WU.:D

I mean P3s. Slow is a subjective word, it depends on what is being compared. I s'pose I could put f@h on my Tualeron.

I've put everyhting I have towards the Phoenix Rising Challenge. That is, my X1900XT, the other E6600 core (as the GPU client needs a dedicated CPU core), my 2.8 P4 laptop, a 3ghz Opty, and a 2.3ghz X2 using the Linux-64 SMP client. I'll be getting an E6400 running it this coming week, and then an X1650XT.

Man, what an army Dragonotra. Currently, I got the following:
Amd XP 2200 @ 1950 (memtest said that was the highest that was stable)
Amd Sempron 2800 (754) @ 2.2ghz
New Amd 3800 (single core for now) @ 2.5 (haven't gotten around to ocing/ bad ram)
Look forward to getting one or two more crunchers up soon (older machines though).

I'm guessing that you'll have to use two clients in different folders, like you would with the console client.
[XC] hipno650

[XC] DragonOrta
12-09-2006, 08:13 PM
I'd suggest switching to the console client, as it's not really harder at all to run, and it's what most on the team run, so it will be easier to find answers to questions.
I know that you need to have two clients, and have them in separate directories. I usually make a Folding folder, and then fah1 and fah2 folders inside the Folding folder, where I put the clients.

I don't know about getting multiple GUI clients running, sorry :( I've only used the console myself, I've heard it is a little faster since it isn't also rendering the graphics.
u cant run multiple GUI clients. Just use console versions, They will be slightly faster than GUI too...

Thanks for the help on the TPR race, I really appreciate the efforts being made from you guys, the daily scores from XS FAH team are rising higher than I've seen before; it's a tough challenge ahead with little time left to turn the tables...I will repay my debt to WCG when called upon
On HT processors 1x folding client will only report as 50% usage, but usage is actually 100%. This is windows thinkin HT is another CPU when it isn't. But you can run 2x clients on HT rigs if you really want (the general view is that you should get a small points boost, but obviously the units take longer to complete)
1x GUI and 1x console should run ok, when you configure the console client it will ask you if you want to configure advanced options answer yes and accept the defaults on the options it presents, apart from Machine ID, set this to 2 or any number apart from 1. Hopefully then they will both run happily :) I'm not a GUI user either so it's a shot in the dark. hth,

Well, it looks bleak now, but if we can get some more crunchers (40+) then we will be able to beat TPR to 10.5mil.
[XC] moddolicous
12-13-2006, 08:00 PM
Well, we need more crunchers!!! Come'on guys. This is only for a couple more weeks (3 at most). Lets give the F@H team a nice Christmas present. I'm going 110% on this right now and will switch back over when the race is over.
[XC] DragonOrta
12-13-2006, 08:10 PM
Exactly. The F@H team is also one of the DC teams at XS. It shouldn't be XS WCG-Vault projects on one big team with F@H off in their corner, as it so often seems to be.
This is an XS-DC competition. And we aren't going to be able to win it without alot more firepower.
Do you want XS to lose a competition? I know I sure as h3ll dont!
If I wasn't having to save my money for x-mas, I'd be ordering Kents and x1900xts as long as my bank account would let me.

The biggest hope for the F@H group is if we tap the immense GPU power on XS. By my count if 50 or so people with ATI GPU jumped in, we'd have a pretty good shot.
I'm throwing ~85 CPU and a GPU at it :)

Hi Hassan,
That is your problem. You need to use either the 6.5's or the 6.10's, the others don't work for whatever reason. If one doesn't work well then switch to the other, I had trouble with the 6.10's and went to the 6.5's but others have had trouble with the 6.5's and went to the 6.10's. Just use either of those that work :)

6.11s have been working great for my x1900xt, and the 6.12s are working for my x1650xt. If I could install the 6.11s on my x1650xt, I would, but they don't recognize it, so to the 6.12s I went. I read on the Standford Folding forums that the 6.12s are totally hit or miss when it comes to whether they will work with the F@H GPU client, so I'd stick to the 6.11s if you can.

I have a 50000 one on one core of a E6600. These things take a time and a half!!!! Anyways after this one is done I'll move to console client. This 'normal' graphical is crap. if i pause the work, I loose the stupid tray icon. I also think the damn thing stalled on me. Maybe thats just my imagination but.... I refused to put it onto any more machines. But I might if the console client works better for me.

It's hard to say for an X1600XT. How long is it taking to complete 1% of a WU in the FAHlog.txt file? If it's taking over 14 minutes or so, that'd be about one WU a day, which would be a guaranteed 330 points, as opposed to the regular client WUs, which span from ~150 points to 600 points, and can take up to 2 days to complete.
Just post up the time that you're getting in the FAHlog.txt file, and we'll go from there. :D

I am using the console.
it takes about 6.18 minutes to complete a step on the 1950xtx i think. I have not checked the log so i am just guessing.
7 hours of run time to complete 68 steps last night. is that good?
SparkyJJO
12-15-2006, 07:16 AM
That is about 9.7 minutes per step, 16.2 hours per WU... hmm. My X1900XT at stock 2D speeds got about 14 hours per WU, and now with the core at XTX 3D speeds is about 11 hours per WU, so something is amiss.
You said you have it at 3D speeds right? Do you have a whole core of your CPU dedicated to the GPU (no other clients using it)?

unless i am crazy
7 hours * 60 minutes per hour = 420 minutes
420 minutes / 68 steps = 6.18 minutes per step
so that is 618 minutes to complete a WU or 10.3 hours.
