Do many online stores even accept this yet?

It'll be extremely handy for online forum sales as we won't have to deal with those blasted fees.

Lets all boycott paypal! They charge fees regardless of the transactions, even though they claim some transactions contain no fees.

I thought they only charged fees when 1 party is using a CC paypal (which is total bollucks if you ask me.)

I like google checkout.

What we should do is start a movement to get ALL forumers on XS using google instead of paypal - that way we don't have to worry about fees and adding 3% for this or that etc.

Google checkout is quickly becoming my standard. Want to ever do business with me? Google checkout will be required soon enough...

I made an account like 2 days ago, and placed 2 separate orders via google checkout and saved an additonal $30 from buy.com. I like it so far :)

awesome..I've been looking for an alternative to paypal. Now if only Google will start an auction site as well, then ebay/paypal is going to have to do a lot better to keep me with them.

Remember how paypal got started? It was free too, for quite a while. But as soon as they put all the competition out of business, here came all the fees.

I doubt this will last too long though before Google brings their fees back. But, that didn't stop me from signing up... I like free service as much as the next guy...

they will get their money from advertisement much like google search. That's why they can afford it for free.

I hope that will be enough to keep this service free.

The only fly in the ointment I see is what freecableguy touched on... Google Checkout is not the stand, trusted service like paypal has become, not yet. My experience is, many buyers don't want to be bothered with signing up with a new payment service they've never heard of before, especially if there's nothing in it for them... we'll see how it goes.

Cool, anything like this is so welcome to me as only "good" option I have currently to pay orders from abroad is Paypal CC. I hope it gets popular and is fast & easy. Finland can't even do money orders with US. :slapass:

I use paypal simply because most people use it, and it is more secure than sending some guy a check or money order. Seems that generally they side with the buyer regardless, so if some seller tries to screw me I'll be able to get my money back. But if a buyer wants to screw me seems paypal would side with them :slap:
If this google checkout takes off and becomes widely accepted and proves to be better than paypal - which wouldn't take much in some ways - I'll gladly switch over to them. And ebayers could still use ebay and use google checkout, just have it listed in the "other" form of payment and say they don't accept paypal. Easy as that :)

Who hasn't heard of google?

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I suspect people already trust the google name. That's why google called it "google" checkout after all.

I never understood why people hate paypal. Most people I see having problems say that paypal couldn't get their money after winning a dispute. Google will likely be just as powerless when it comes to that sort of thing. Just use your head and be careful who you do business with to avoid getting ripped.

I signed up to this yesterday :)

I hate paypal because of their stupid policies. Especially on refunds. You can litterally buy something, then say your acc got hacked and they refund money to the buyer. So you end up paying the price for other people's stupidity. Well at least thats the way it always happens with me :(

It annoys me most because i've been ripped off and not received goods which i would have had to pay for but when i dispute i lost. Luckily good old credit card company can come to the rescue :p Paypal are powerless to them.
When people dispute me for not delivering the goods even though i know they arrived and their account was not hacked or whatever bull:banana::banana::banana::banana: they make up, they always win. They can never do anything when it's the other way around though :\

Paypal's charges are also high, they get like 4/5% out of every transaction from me and they give you crap exchange rates too.

That's another very good point as to why it will be a little hard to ween buyers away from Paypal. If you're primarily a seller, it's a no brainer, lets all go over to Google. :stick:

But again, what's in it for you if you're primarily a buyer to switch though?

Google Checkout is relatively new and not many people have heard about their payment transfer service yet, that's all I meant.

I've only heard of GCO because of Buy.com. $20 off purchases of $50 or more, or something like that, if you use GCO. Now that I know I can use that to pay forum members, I'll likely use it instead of paypal.

thunderstruck!

Just signed up for GCO. I thought you could send payments to other members. Guess not. Apparently you can only use it to buy from online shops. Aside from the rebates, what is the point of this?

You can. But not like how you can with paypal. The forum member (who's selling) has to go through Google Base (http://base.google.com/base/help/checkout.html) and list it for sale, I think. I'm still learning myself...

I agree, I have sold for a 2nd income on ebay and some times I use paypal for other business. I would guess over the last 3 years they have taken at least $1,000 in fees from me. Im going to drop it as soon as I can, im signing up at google check out right now.

You can also send an e-mail invoice, so its much like paypal, just the seller has to send a bill first.
