Camino....based off FF1.0.

Then behind that....Shiira, has some sweet features but uses too much horizontal resolution for those features.

For windows: FF1.5 and IE7 are a tie....but both pretty much suck compared to what could be....

Firefox 1.5 (Just havn't downloaded 2.0 yet, trying to get stuff off to reformat as is).

IE 6 or 7... because I don't see the point in wasting space on a browser that does exactly the same...

... don't see the point in wasting space on a browswer that does exactly the same.... ... ... ... ?

Okay, here are some of the reasons (I'm using Firefox as my alternative browser here, but the same goes for others like Opera etc)
1. Firefox is what, less than 6MB to download... we'll say maybe 20MB when installed (a complete guess, but I think this gives us a lot of extra room to work with). At the average hard drive cost / GB, that equates to about a thousandth of a cent or so worth of money spent on storing it.
2. Having IE and Firefox both installed on your computer will not slow down your system at all. It's not like either program takes up any RAM or CPU cycles when you aren't using them, and;
2a. When they *are* running, Firefox uses less memory and fewer CPU cycles. This equates to an actual *gain* in computer processing power available to other tasks when using an Internet browser versus using IE6/7
3. Internet Explorer 6/7 still do not render pages according to web specifications. M$ had originally stated IE7 would conform fully, but right before release they changed their mind about it. Firefox on the other hand will display pages the way they were meant to be displayed.
4. Firefox has been proven to load web pages faster than IE because it's far more refined
5. Firefox has been proven to be more secure than IE for general web browsing (though I believe IE has a few advantages in high-security zones, I'll give it that... but you don't generally run into that online. Even banks don't count for that.)

But I suppose you're right, there's no reason to install two browsers that do the same thing... but there *IS* a point in installing a browser that gives you more in every way and requires less of you in the first place.

Firefox 2! :toast: Will try out Operah as well seeing as it is also pretty popular around here. Btw, I think that IE7 is just a copy of the features that Firefox had long before (tabs, etc.). Plus they moved so much stuff around, I don't have the time to go around looking for the "Tool" button...

firefox is a ripoff of opera, but i converted to it anyways :) used IE6 for a while, jumped to opera, jumped to k-meleon, then to FF :) always like the most minimalistic-appearance browsing experience that i can get, while still retaining functionality.

i really got used to the look and feel of opera. minimizing a tab by clicking on it really makes it easier to navigate through forums. and opera really does load pages a lot faster than other browsers. though firefox has become a lot faster with version 2.

it is also great for dial-up users. you have a button to select, on the fly, if you wanna load images only from cache. that makes tabbed browsing possible with only 56k or ISDN.

but you have to use ie6 or firefox for some pages that opera isnt compatible with. for instance the fullscreen feature on youtube doesnt work. at least on 9.02 that is. haven't tried 9.10 yet.

Firefox 2.0 is my standard choice. With the built-in spell-check and an added a gestures extension I'm set. In fact, I've ruined myself with gesture navigation. Makes working on a system without it hell.

For some reason firefox has been crashing on the "family" pc a lot lately...... It's ok because 2.0 has the "restore session" tab after a crash, but it can be irritating. Maybe F@H with 90% usage on both cores is eating up the memory?

I'm trying out Opera now. I agree it has some quirks but you can get it setup to your liking. I love the fast back/forward action.

I'm not sure if it can replace my SlimBrowser which I've been using for 3 years. I'm going to try FireFox 2 also and compare...FF2 seems closer to the SB that I'm used to.

Opera for me. I have all 3 browsers installed (IE7, Firefox 2 and Opera 9.20b) and I've so far been most happy with Opera. It's just a personal taste kind of thing in my opinion.

The only thing I've found Opera to be superior at is page caching. Going back and forth between pages is much better in Opera for me.

This coming from someone who hated and said he'd never use Opera again around 5 years ago. It used to crash consistently back then. Start it up; crash. Open a page; crash. View an image; crash. Pray to the computer gods that it won't crash again; crash.

I was strictly Firefox for a long time but recently I have kinda bounced between FF2, IE7 and Opera, and once in a great while Konqueror. I hated IE6, but IE7 has grown on me after being forced to use it because of a couple of school web apps. Opera is pretty cool, but it is different enough that I wasn't an immediate fan, but it is really growing on me the more I use it.

A question for you Opera guys:

How do you turn off the function of the forward mouse button doing "Fast Forward"? It is really annoying on forums when I only want to go "Forward".

Also how can you move the toolbars around in the order you want them like in IE?
