Microsoft has confirmed that Vista can be affected by malware from 2004, but argues this is a feature

The virus described does not seem anymore different than a phishing site.. One should not allow Windows to download files that one is unsure of and likewise, should not login to ebayyy.com

wow and this feature will be on all versions of Vista?

The feature did it's job, no? It asked the user whether they wanted to download the virus. If Microsoft could have some magic virus detector, they wouldn't need User Account Control. Tell me how Microsoft would be able to discern between a personal keylogger and a trojan:)

Yeah Microsoft really sucks, I'm running Vista and yesterday my car broke down whilst driving to my job to work with Vista there. Obviously this is a mayor bug in Vista, if people's cars break less people will be able to use Vista.

If Microsoft doesn't fix this soon I will have to start using Ubuntu or something..

People need to get a grip, they're just reaching for something to b*tch about. Throwing your PC out of the window will prolly still break it, even if you use Vista. Shocking eh?

@nn: Is that still kelly in your avatar?

@nn: Is that still kelly in your avatar?thank you, it would take some kind of idiot to interpret this as a flaw with Vista. *looks at most of the people replying*

Was about to say.
If you leave your house open and someone comes and steals all your stuff, is that because your house was designed badly?

Nice to see all the windows hater's jumping on MS for this...let's actaully read more of the article than the first line eh...

Based on our initial investigation, Microsoft can confirm that these variants do not take advantage of a security vulnerability, rather they rely on social engineering to infect a user's system."

Social engineering relies on tricking users into executing malicious code themselves -- a user has to open an infected attachment on an e-mail for these worms to infect the system. Windows Mail Client -- the Vista replacement to Outlook -- will block the worms, but businesses running third-party e-mail clients such as Lotus Notes, or webmail such as Yahoo or GoogleMail, could be vulnerable to social-engineering attacks.

So...how is that MS's fault? And how is this different to an uneducated linux or mac user opening a shell script with the single line of "rm -rf ~/"? mursaat is completely right in saying users are the most deadly virus.
