AMD introduces 65 nm processors (http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/12/05/amd_intros_65nm_cpus/)
Athlon 64 X2 5000+ (65nm, 64-bit, Energy Efficient, 2.6GHz, Dedicated 512KB L2 cache, 2000MHz HyperTransport bus, socket AM2) $301
Athlon 64 X2 4800+ (65nm, 64-bit, Energy Efficient, 2.5GHz, Dedicated 512KB L2 cache, 2000MHz HyperTransport bus, socket AM2) $271
Athlon 64 X2 4400+ (65nm, 64-bit, Energy Efficient, 2.3GHz, Dedicated 512KB L2 cache, 2000MHz HyperTransport bus, socket AM2) $214
Athlon 64 X2 4000+ (65nm, 64-bit, Energy Efficient, 2.1GHz, Dedicated 512KB L2 cache, 2000MHz HyperTransport bus, socket AM2) $169

Like we were speculating, the 90nm PR models with 1MB of L2 cache are now with 512kB of L2, but are clocked 100MHz higher.
We can also notice that these four K8 EE CPUs are Rev G1 and have TDP of 65W.
Some sites have comments about these CPUs:

sites such as Tom's Hardware have been unable to confirm AMD's power claims
That must be the dumbest statement ever... :(

At least they have a decent price, there's nothing else to ad since there is no bench to compare the results.

Actually you can't buy one.
This is only a paper lounch. Expect them to appear in Q1 2007.

This is stupid... Are they really having that much trouble producing 65ers?
I need to OC and have to have Matx format so I'm forced to do Am2. I was hoping for am x2 3800 but nada. :(

If they're good overclockers AMD will gain some public, remember that good overclocking MBs for AM2 are much cheaper than 775 MBs.
It has been a long time since i saw x.5 multipliers.

hmmm nothing exciting. Just a die shrink. At least the price is decent. Then again, a 6400 would probably take most of them down.

Well since the reviewers don't even have the chips yet...
seems more like a marketing ploy to dissuade people who might want to purchase a new system for Christmas. I guess AMD thinks if it can offer hope, it's fan base might put off that upgrade for one more year, when they might be more competitive.

do you think that if you get the 11.5x multi, you will also get the 12x multi?

seems a shame that we may not see alarge number of overclocks to get a balanced idea of the overclocking range of these new chips for a while - the first batches are probably going into dell systems.

No, but big oems like dell are going to be eating the supply for a bit.

I find it odd that so many people seem disappointed that it's a paper launch.
Other than recently with videocards, pretty much everything in the PC hardware business is paper launches. I can't think of a single time you could just stroll onto newegg and buy a processor on it's supposed launch day. Only way you find things on their release day is if a distributor leaks them to stores early.

difference is there also isn't a detailed preview of these, usually even if you can't get the product for a month after the launch you have some idea of performance/power consumption/overclocking.
All this 'launch' does is confirm what SKU's will be avaliable - and that has been suggested on roadmaps for a while.

As far as I remember, even paper launches, review sites usually have 1 to test.
Anyway, these chips are mainly for dell, hp etc. AMD are constrained and this will help matters in the short term.

Good for AMD, still I'm waiting for K8L to be "lounched" (whatever that means :p:)

You do know how much Conroe overclocks right? A 1.5Ghz oc is very, very common especially on the E63/64. E66/67 tops off at 1.3-4Ghz. This all on above ambient cooling.

Good, news. I take it that 65nm will only be made available for socket AM2 right?

"Nothing to see here folks, just move along..."
65nm K8, 1st revision, I'm not expecting much. It is a sign of progress at least, but my eye brows won't raise until I hear more about K8L..
Well, if you remember the first 90nm AMDs back then, they were making a pretty good leap overclocking wise compared to the 130nm parts.
Since 90nm AM2s apparently don't go much anywhere right now there is hope for at least the old days coming back, even if they don't beat Intel's average overclock.
