Enermax INFINITI - World's First DX10-ready Desktop PSU Series
http://img114.imageshack.us/img114/1964/enermaxmk4.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Enermax is proud to announce INFINITI as its latest high-end PSU series.
New graphic cards such as ATI R600 or NVIDIA 8800 series will consume more and more power, so ENERMAX created its new INFINITI line of mainstream market power supplies, ideal for systems with 1 to 3 video cards and one multi-core processor.
INFINITI will be the succesor of the LIBERTY, NOISETAKER II and FMA II desktop series PSUs. Ranging from 650W to 750W, it comes with three separated 12V rails, each capable of providing up to 28 resp. 30A.
Each 12V rail is capable of providing up to 28 resp. 30A, enabling the usage of DX10 class components by powering one graphic card besides one major component like motherboard, CPU or drives each. This results in a very balanced system with either one, two or three GPU's connected.
DirectX® 10 will offer more than double performance due to its intelligent architecture, especially in 3D games. Though the efficiency and total design have been greatly improved, such an increase of performance needs still more power and a new generation of connectors.
The PCI Express® standard has been revised to version 2.0 and defines a new "2x4 PEG". Since the power draw would still be too high for a single connector, both new GPU classes use not only one, but two >> http://www.enermax.com/english/news_press_releases_01.asp?id=22#
This increase of power consumption when comparing to the 150W PCI Express® specification not only doubles the number of PEGs needed by this new additional connector, but also challenges PSU manufacturers to a new level of rail design to guarantee the versatility, since not everybody uses up to 3 of these cards neither combines cards of same power level only. From now onwards are 19 possible combinations of graphics the biggest challenge in the history of power! >> http://www.enermax.com/english/news_press_releases_01.asp?id=22#
All INFINITI units will be modular and cooled by a special 13.5cm fan for silent operation.
INFINITI will start shipping in the beginning of December to ENERMAX global subsidiaries and, depending on area, it should be available in the sales channels from January onwards. Prices might vary locally.

I wonder if they plan to make a Quad-FX + DX10 ready PSU? 750W seems kind of low for that.

probably still a single rail design, just split using chokes and etc.
Pair of 80mm fans would keep it cooler.

just a shame you would never be able to draw that amount of current from each rail at once.

Looks like they could be really great PSUs. Would gladly seen a range of let's say up to at least 850W tho. :)
I prefer one big fan instead of dual 80mm.

I don't, and I don't remember seeing quiet 80mm PSU's lately when compared to 120mm versions.

It doubt that it deliver 3 28amp rails. There is somthing they are not telling us. Maybe it's somthing like 60 amps combined, and each rail can rail can handle up to 28amps at one time. I really don't think this PSU can provide 3 x 28 =74amps on the 12v rail and stay under 800watts.

WHQL certified? :D

How is this the world's first DX10 ready desktop PSU?
Because it has four PCI-e connectors? No.. that can't be it. I've got PSU's with four PCI-e's that are almost a year old from when the 7950's first came out and had two PCI-e's on each card.
Because it has 8-pin PCI-e connectors? Well... considering that they're the incorrect connector (PCI SIG never finalized the specification) and the Topower Power Train had the same 8-pin connectors on it before this Enermax, that can't be it.
Hmm... I give up. Why is this news?
It is the worlds first dx10 psu because its the first to coin the marketing term. :)

I don't care if it advertises time travel if it performs good for a nice price i am happy.

Segate recently reported it will release a line of hard drives that are DX-10 ready. The certification will also be extended to SATA cables. Each SATA cable comes with a certificate of authenticity to show it is indeed a true DX-10 cable.

not sure why people are knocking on this marketing r even this psu. Enermax happens to make very solid PSUs. If they say they can power three DX10 cards with this units, give them the benefit of the doubt. THese people know what they are doing. Though I can't say the same about their cases, but that's another story.

problem is if its advertised as such and buy it assuming it can,
your screwed.
It doesn't matter for what price a product sells for if it can't do what it's advertised to do then dont advertise as it can.

You don't think? You're being sarcastic, right? 3x28x12>1000, and 1000>800. It's impossible last I checked the laws of physics.
Mod Note: I'm not gonna delete all the DX 10 jokes because they're sorta true, and it wouldn't leave much thread here. But get off it already. Go tell knock knock jokes if you like beating a dead humor horse. But don't do it in News.

stop using noisy fans
ALL 80mm fans are noisier than 120mm fans at the same Cfm, as the smaller fans needs higher rpm to match the bigger. You don't hang out at Spcr much do you?
STEvil
12-05-2006, 07:43 PM
You should stop using noisy fan too. Pair of ~30cfm 80mm fans will do a better job than a single 120mm fan due to static air pressure.
Large fans on the top cover of the PSU limit internal room for components far more than a 80's front and back will.
Why would I visit SPCR? Very rarely have info that i'm interested in, but when they do, they do. Other than that i'm here..
Dont bother to analyze performance much, do you?

Don't get me wrong I also don't like when someone goes "spcr smug". But if there is something Mike Chin is good at it's psu noise testing. I don't trust all the stuff he writes but when it comes to noise testing psus his psu test rig is THE BEST IN SPACE.
You're quite right about the pressure thing, "push and pull" is really usful and I use that technique in my case for cpu cooling (which is a really un-spcr thing to do). However, many 120mm PSU don't have high impedance so the pressure is not needed and thus better to go for lower rpms with a 120mm. A 120mm fan blows air on a bigger surface as well in contrast with a dual 80mm which takes the air more in a straight line through the psu. I guess it's much a question of engineering taste and how the heatsinks look like.
A 80mm fan cooled psu has a more closed case than a 120mm one and thus makes it harder for noise from inside the computer case to escape, which is good. The fan in a 120mm psu is farther away from the ear however.
Dont bother to analyze performance much, do you?
What performance are you talking about????
The new 120mm cooled low impedance Seasonics (or Corsair etc...) are the best ones for noise at the moment.
http://www.silentpcreview.com/article699-page1.html
I really think that more Psu companies would go the dual 80mm than we are seeeing today, if they thought it would generate a better product.

The best in known space containing intelligent life anyways ;)

However, many 120mm PSU don't have high impedance so the pressure is not needed and thus better to go for lower rpms with a 120mm. I guess it's much a question of engineering taste and how the heatsinks look like.
Generally the push-pull is more efficient because the heatsinks must stand vertically from the PSU due to the components. If heatpipe heatsinks were used then fans on the top casing of the PSU would be of more use, but at the moment they really dont do a lot more than toss air at the least efficient place of the heatsinks and even when the heatsink is placed correctly, they are blowing at a flat surface with short fins. This is all very inefficient comparred to blowing air past the heatsink (less air restriction, less noise, lower cfm fans required).
A 80mm fan cooled psu has a more closed case than a 120mm one and thus makes it harder for noise from inside the computer case to escape, which is good. The fan in a 120mm psu is farther away from the ear however.
Unless your case is inverted, then its closer. Either way the large single fan faces more restriction due to forcing air perpendicularly to the heatsinks.
What performance are you talking about????
Was referring to your lack of analytical content in the post you replied to me with originally.

For some reason I dont think engineers today are half as skilled as they were back in the good old days.. :(
