I want to overclock my CPU, but I know NOTHING about CPUs or overclocking.
Can someone like me do this, or should I just forget the whole thing?

My mobo is DFI Lanparty Ultra-D, and my CPU is in the title.
I have 1Gig of cheap Coursair RAM.

I did many searches and found many guides on forums, but all these guides say things like set your multiplier to..... or set your htt to.... I dont know how to "set" anything. I dont even know where to set it. I'm guessing this should be done in BIOS, but I dont even know how to get there and how to use BIOS.

I know that no one here has the time or desire to explain all this stuff to me, so if you could drop me a couple of links where I can read and learn all this, I'm be very greatful. I hope there are guides that are thorough enough for newbs like me.

PS:

I tried building this rig all by myself 2 years ago, but when I put everything together, it just wouldnt work... Then I had to pay someone to help me, and it turned out that the reason why my rig wouldnt work is because I got a defective board, so I had to RMA it. But even when my PC finally started working there was a problem with my RAM, and now I have to press F1 to get into windows every time I boot. (I get a strange message in POST concerning my RAM every time)
The reason why I chose my DFI mobo is because people said it's good for overclocking. Since I never tried that, I feel like I wasted my $$$. Either way, I do want to try, and I was always interested in this kind of stuff...

You might ask why I mentioned all this stuff. I did it to explain just how much I know about these things.

you need to read the stickies and do more reasearch before you start posting questions

Ok.. that was helpful. Thx.

You got a point though. It's just that I already did quite a lot of searching, and didnt find what I was looking for. Guess I'll go back to more searching....

If you really aren't sure - I would suggest NOT overclocking at all. There is risk involved, reading the stickies will explain how - if you really dont understand how to "set" things though - I would suggest either letting someone you know help you overclock or just leave it at stock.

I want to overclock my CPU, but I know NOTHING about CPUs or overclocking.
Download from Aoaforums here Guidemania and OcBible (http://files.aoaforums.com/D171-Cpu%20Burn%20In%20Stress.html) the first program is a huge o/c guides collection.
OcBible is for extra assistance and is supported at XtremeSystems also --> link --> see my profile.
I have 939 samples like your CPU in my personal database.
Good luck. :)

Thanx guys. I'll start reading then....

Oh, and about the risk... I'm willing to take it. I'm sure all of you started from nothing too.

Well when you are first booting up the black screen will say hit " " key to enter BIOS it is prob delete .

Then from there is where you start changing values. It might be a good idea to mind your cmos reset jumper on your MB @ the same time.

Once in bios you will under stand the differnt lingo like htt and ldt and such .

I have a 3200+ winchester that runs @ 2.7ghz with 1.55v

since your default multi is 10x I would just leave it there . Start rasing the htt from 200 go in small steps booting into windows and running Pime95 .
You will prob need to put your ram on a divider . (that is in bios as well)

I forgot this link also click here (http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=20251) it is a complete list with overclocking programs and links.
Prefer manual settings instead of AUTO. :)
Finally you should be patient when you o/c.
