HI, I'm building an AM2 now and deciding between two CPUs.
I dunno if I should go for a X2 4200 (or 4400+) or an AM2 Opteron with Santa Ana Core (that is Opteron 1212).

I know how it is with batches and stuff, but my problem is, that I cant find any info about how the Santa Ana Opterons OC? Is it the same scenario like with s939 Opterons?

I get an Opteron 1212 with this batch : CCBYF 0628 SPMW - can I get any intel from this?

Thx a lot for any info or suggestions ...

no you cant, its an amd chip. lol jk:p:

and from what we have seen, the opties for am2 have been clocking fairly decently. i would go for the opty, nice clocks and 2x1mb L2 cache.

Remember if you go with the Opty that, you will probably need a DFI board, since as far as I know they are the only boards that are confirmed to work with AM2 opterons.

I ment intel (info) not Intel, the mean Conroe-maker :p: no you cant, its an amd chip. lol jk:p:

Where in the hell did you see an AM2 Opteron setup? I cant find it ANYWHERE!

got this from a thread a few threads down.

3ghz, with 1.5v, and the chip has a stock speed of only 1.8v and the cherry on top is it has 2x1MB of L2 cache.

most X2's with much faster stock speeds cant do that, with only 1.5v, not to mention they only have 2x512kb L2.

and opties almost always have good mem controllers.

i know personally, i want an opty. maybe a 65nm opty one beautifull day. but i dont see 65nm opties coming anytime soon, besides in my fantasies.

Hold tight WeStSiDePLaYa, 65nm are coming sooner than later, at least according to Dave_Graham in this posthttp://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=1820393&postcount=337
Besides Q2/07 we should be able to buy Quad Core opties carved in 65nm ;)

the opty was a excellent chip i had it up to 3.2 but cooling it was tricky i thought i had a chip that loved heat it turns out it was cold bugged at like 7c it would boot at 310x9 any higher and it wouldnt boot unless the temps were high. thats why i said that chip was perfect for aircooling because those results were with stock cooling. now my plan was before i went broke was to get a opty 1212 because it had the 10x multi which was perfect cause i could hit 310x10 with no balance act.. the 3500+ im using now does the same thing with cold and high htt when i set it to 9x330 no boot but i can boot at 300x10 so when my $$ gets right ill get the 1212 :)

Those thing use a lot of power compared to the newer chips. I would assume that they would run hotter as well.

If they do come out at 65nm then I would guess they would run much cooler.

HUUUUH?

look at the screenie i provided. 1.5vcore, load temp 45C, STOCK air cooling.

wow, MSIMAX, what stepping is that 1212 Opty?
I can get a hand on a Opty 1212 0628 SPMW - you thin it can run up to 3Ghz ? Cuz I dont how are the batches with AM2 Opties, but I guess I'll grab one a try my luck ...
