Hi I am looking at getting a Corsair HX620W psu and the cable length on the ATX and 4/8pin 12v cpu leads are only 19in...why do they make these things so damn short

anyway..I will need to get an extension(asked OCZ once about this on OCZ 520w Powerstream since I was unsure if it would be long enough and they said extesnion would have no perfromance impact)

I need to know if I will just a 4 pin or both 4pin/ 8 pin extension cables

thanks

Depends on the board. The Gigabyte 965P-DS3 uses a 4 pin connector.

I think All Asus Conroe boards use the 8pin connecter, and the 680i mobos too.

yeah, my D975XBX1 also uses an 8-pin connector. I tried 4-pin when i first got it, but it didn't post, no CPU power. 8-pin or no CPU power on the XBX

Will it be a functional problem to plug a 4-pin cable in a 8-pin connector?

can you? you probably could. Would you want to? No, if you don't have an 8pin on your power supply get one that does. most of mine do so no problem here. The 8pin connector is there because the engineers want you to use the 8pin connection. cutting corners with power supplies is never a good idea. Your just asking for trouble down the road.

My asus board has a 8 pins 12V connector.
And, a month a go i saw someone (here on XS) using a 4 pins connector on the 8 pins connector, it was working good, so it should work.

Gigabyte DS4 / DQ6 both have 8pin ATX12.

Holmer,
You can plug a 4pin cable into the 8pin connector.

Asus supports 8pin, but only need 4pin. 8Pins just gives abit better power etc.
