Ive had to RMA like 4 pairs of memory from g skill over the past year or so because they are not performing as advertised.

ive had LE and LA 2 x 512mb sets in the past, could never get them stable so in the end i was offered the 2gb set.

so right now i have a PC 4000HZ 2gb set on my DFI nf4 SLI-D board with a opteron 170. All i am trying to do is to run them at stock DDR500 - 250mhz with 8x cpu multi in bios.

They just wont be stable at all, can anyone tell me why? ive ran blend test on prime 95 and 3D mark 2001 SE at the same time, came back to my computer like 10 hours or so later and found it had rebooted itself.

Processor is kept at stock 2000mhz by the way just to verify.

i have used ram settings from here on the forum for timings the 3-4-4-8. and 2.6 - 2.7 voltages..

how can 1 person have so much bad luck? all i want is for it to be stable at the settings i am given, and they are not.

i think i might remember you....
maybe your mobo is killing ram........
well... what can i say..... RMA it....
3-4-4-8 with 2.6v FSB250 or FSB200 using 1:1.25
LDT*3 or 4
i don't think memory has problem that fast.....

Ive had 4 sets of Gskill

FF's, LE's and 2 sets of HZ's all took a little tinkering with settings.

Have you tried these timings link (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=75199) and what bios and slots are you using?

Sounds like user error.

Hi, i opened winflash utility and it says the bios im using is 6/23/05 - ive used others in the past with the other sticks ive had, still the same problems.

now then, the settings im using in the bios are these (taken from A64 tweaker) so im not sure if these are accurate as to what i set in the bios?

http://www.boomspeed.com/shadowuk/a64tweakerbiossettings.JPG

so ive used those settings and different voltages, now what? im stuck. What is causing the problem is it my ram or mobo/cpu? how do i know? and if i buy another of the cpu/mobo how do i know that will fix the problem?

anyone have any idea? i was thinking of switching over to conroe soon but it would be nice if i can get this sorted first.

well the ram you RMA were all bad, i don't think it is other issue. but just worry your mobo maybe damage your ram or something weird happen.
it is very unusually to see 4,5 rma per year and very very unlucky to get some bad ram. the chance is way too low.

hi
it is odd how my ram seems to be bad, but im sure one set was tested for me before it was sent out to me, what do you reccomend i do? rma? i am a bit worried that i may get faulty sticks again though..thanks for help

i think what the gskill tech was saying is that it is something your setup is doing it to the ramski.

i have to agree, to continuously have the ram go bad, time after time, would lead me to suspect some other component rifling the memory somehow.

i am running 2 gig of HZ that i just snagged off ebay, it thunders to 280 with ease............

Hi

sorry for the very late reply, didnt realise you had replied again here.

What do you think is causing the problem for my ram to go bad each time? is it my motherboard?

Thing is, i dont have another motherboard of my own to test them in..

I am not doing anything wrong with the memory either i just take them out of the package and put them straight in the mobo.

By the way, has this ever happened to anybody else?.

i cant see how i could get 4 pairs of bad ram if they get tested before they are sent to me? :(

Dont know what to do now, i can RMA. But i could get bad sticks, or whatever is making them go bad again.

not 100% sure but i think a2? if there is such a thing.. ill check later to make sure, its a bit awkward to see that part of the board with the hs in the way.

what difference does it make what revision it is?

well there two versions of a2 the first version which was pulled after only 100 units sold and the mass version. The initial version developed a bad habit of killing UCCC and was quickly replaced. SO if it is one of the unlucky few the solution isn't new ram, rather a new mobo

uccc? u mean memory? btw i havent been able to check yet but will definately later and post back.. i got the board from overclockers.co.uk and first one was damaged on arrival.. rmaed it, had to wait like a month or so to get another (poor service) and its the one i still have now.. wouldnt have thought id have a bad early one? what u think?
so ur saying this board might be killing the ram as soon as i put it in?

dang this sucks, i want a new setup ina few months not a new board :/ wont work on ddr2 too

look on the side of the PCIE or PCI slots
