Here's what happened.
I took the southbridge heatsink off to replace the stuff on it with as5. I did the same for the northbridge and put a waterblock on it.
Then I noticed it would shut down within 5-10 seconds at my overclocked speeds, 1.55v, 3.6 GHz. This was prime stable before.
Now it won't even post at that speed.
So I did the logical thing and took off the waterblock and the southbridge heatsink, cleaned them off, put less as5 on and tried again, same thing.
So I tried putting the original heatsink back on, putting all my settings back to stock in the BIOS, and then back to overclocked. Same issue.
I am posting this at stock, it works fine there, but it won't overclock at all anymore. I don't know what I could have done during the installation of the waterblock that would prevent it from overclocking even when I changed back to normal cooling. The mobo/cpu temps are in the mid 30s, I don't know how I killed the mobo just doing this.
Right now I am running orthos blend at stock and nothing has gone wrong yet, I started the orthos in the middle of typing up this post.
Any suggestions are grealy appreciated. I feel sick over the idea that I ruined the setup after all the work I did on this. :(

Hey, don't forget to change your sig to match that new underclock you now have...
Just kidding, I would think that if you had done anything damaging that the board probably just wouldn't boot or have serious issues. Did you try clearing CMOS and starting over? I guess the board is being cooled properly according to sensors.
Try overclocking really slowly but perhaps BIOS clearing is in order or reflashing bios or updating to new bios (if there is one compared to your current version)

I tried clearing CMOS, and tried reflashing then clearing CMOS, same issue.
I know it sounds ridiculous that I find it to be a problem that I can't get 3.6 GHz. The problem is I had it, stable, then I install something new and even when reverting back I can't get it to POST at so much as 3.4.

Probably. :(
I can run orthos at stock though, blend, ram, or cpu. Memtest for windows is going too.
Is it possible I damaged something but the motherboard? I am going to get a new one with next day shipping on newegg and return this one in that box as an RMA so I don't have to wait too long.
I guess this is a lesson well learned, if the stock chipset heatsinks work don't mess with them. :( I did on two DFIs and had no issues, I didn't have that luck this time around.
I don't know what I did.. maybe I shocked it, maybe I bent it, maybe I scratched it, but that's what bothers me. I'll never know what to avoid doing next time around.

u damaged the mobo, of course it will work at STOCK speeds
ya i bet at those speeds u damaged the northy bridgy (dont ask why i say it that way... it sounds funny)
my north bridge is watercooled from the time that i got it, it was watercooled
u may have been slowly degrading ur north bridge with heat problems untill now, when u see a noticable problem

I damaged it with heat, enough so that it goes from six hours prime stable, to no post, exactly when I change cooling? I can't buy that.
Maybe I scratched something when I took the old TIM off. Alcohol to that was like stabbing someone with a mouse.. completely ineffective, it's like cement.

to help removal of the old material, use a hair dryer to heat it up. comes rt off with alcohol. also heat it up before you pry it off to help it unseat faster and with less force.

I got the new asus, nothing changed, exactly like before.
In advance yes I did check to make sure that I used the new motherboard.
I have no idea what is wrong now..
Also I have not even put the chipset cooler on yet... it's definately another issue. CPU/PSU/RAM related.
