i have a netgear mr814v3 and i want to play age of empires 2 over lan. the problem is that i need to open ports otherwise the 2 comps cant connect to eachother. but my router will only allow 1 comp to be assigned to an open ports, otherwise i get a port conflict error. now what am i suppose to do here? disabling the router firewall does nothing and setting up dmz does nothing(unless im doing that wrong).

If you're playing over the LAN then you'll need to open ports on your machines, rather than the router. Disable any port forwarding rules/DMZ you've set up so far in the router & re-enable the firewall. Disable any firewall software on each machine & try again; this assumes both machines are networked correctly (if they both have internet via the router, then this is probably ok).

For a more permanent firewall setup consider adding each machine to the others "trusted zone" in a 3rd Party firewall -- or in Windows Firewall goto Control Panel - Windows Firewall - Exceptions - Add port & put the AoE2 port in there. Hope some of that is of use... GL :2cents:
