Hello people. I finally gave my prommie another try, and it worked! BUT, the temps were sort of high. The micro-freezer read -44C, however PCHealth read 10C (approx 53F), and MBM-5 confirmed this. So I got into Windows, and had to change the video card driver, as I removed the Tyan tachyon, because I wanted nothing pulling the 12V rail down. Anyway, I loaded the drivers from Leadtek CD afetr deleting ATI's, and then rebooted. Well this is where I get cnfuced. The manual read the following under Restarting the PC verbatim; "Note! If you have turned of the PC and wants to restart it again immediately afterwards, please wait for at least 2 - 3 minutes before turning it back on again, in order to avoid the protection circuit to cut-off power to the compressor. In case this happens, you need to wait 15-20 minutes before you can restart the cooling system."
OK does this include simple "re-boot"? After I changed the videocard driovers I ckecked PCHealth for temps, and then exited to load Windows. Well Windows gets to the point of the "pre-desktop" screen where the smal running green indicator-bar. You know just prior to entering the desktop, how this running green bar-indicator hesitates, and then Windows enters the desktop? Well prior to that occurring the screen just goes black? Iwated to see if it was just a long interim between the intial logo screen with green-bar running, however; it did not. I then tried truning off the Prometeia for the 3 minute waiting period. Restarted, and the same thing happened. I even tried booting from the WindowsXP driver CD, and used the Repair option, to no avail?

Fianlly after shutting down the system to write this, I felt the compressor, and the top of it was so hot, it almost burned my fingers. had I left them there it would. I don't remember reading anywhere the compressor ran so very hot? Is this normal? And if the front LED's HDD, and Power-on aren't working, yet the connections are fine, what could this mean? The HDD is working, because i can hear it operate in corroboration to every stage in the boot-up? I'm very confused, 10C is only 9C less then I can acheive with my SLK800 and Vantec Tornado, on a cold which 19C to 24C? Please help.

Liquid3D,

Where are you at with this problem...resolved yet? Have you contacted Chip-Con?

Thanks

Liquid, just in case you've never heard this before, anytime a refrigeration compressor is shut down, it must sit long enough for the pressures on both the high side and low to equal out. Otherwise there's way too much opposing pressure force against the piston when the motor inside the compressor tries to restart. That causes the motor to hit very high amps to attempt to restart and will blow the circuit protection. this especially applies to reboots if the compressor is turned off at all. If you're just rebooting the computer, the cooling system shouldn't be shut down. But in case the system is shut down, yes you should wait at least 3 minutes before restarting it. The same goes towards any refrigeration system (ie: split system or window air conditioning or refrigerator, etc....) Also, if the system has sat on it's side or upside down at all, it should be left in the upright position for several hours at least till allow the oils to settle back down into the compressor.

There was a thread around here about promy temps on 8rda+.

Ive had bios temps of over 25*c with my prommy. so just dont look at the temps in the bios of MM5 only the evap temp.

If your systems shutting down it might be becuase the chill controll is set to shut down at a loo low temperature.
In the last page of the manual it explains how to setup the start temp and shutdown temp, as well as the fan speeds.

I have mine to boot at -33, also slow the fans at -33 (I hate noise)
Shutdown temp is -15 so I can cain the Vcore and OC and it wont shut down. (the default was something like -25, but ive hit that a few times when pushing hard)
My fans spin fast once the evap hits -25.

When my PC reboots the compressor dosent seem to stop (12v is there all the time) so I just let it carry on.

If I turn off then ill try to leave it for a minute, but ive not had any problems with restarting it too fast.

My compressor gets pretty hot, I think its perfectly normall.

Slighly worrying that you cant boot though, try moving the 12 plug for the prommy ot give your HDD its own line to the PSU.

Try running stock speeds.

What sort of contact are you getting with the core?
When I installed mine the contact was perfect all the time but the hoze was pre-bent by toofast so it was easy to line it all up.
