Finally got an Asus P5B Deluxe for my Q6600 Kentsfield adventures and now the FSB is much improved over D975XBX Bad Axe1 board!
System:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield QUPT B3 Step 7
Swiftech G4 Storm/Thermochill 120.3/MCP650 + Kayl 100W Custom PSU
Asus P5B Deluxe 0804 bios (upgraded from 0405 bios)

2GB OCZ PC2-8000 Titanium Alpha VX2 Micron D9GKX (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=122830)
500GB Seagate 7200.10 SATAII
Gigabyte I-RAM with 1.5GB Kingston KHX3200 Winbond BH-5 (http://i4memory.com/showthread.php?t=3322)
LiteOn 165H DVD-ROM

3x 120x25mm 76cfm 0.4A fans
1KW OCZ ProXStream 1000PXS Quad PCI-E psu (http://i4memory.com/showthread.php?t=3317)
Seems bios sensor is out of wack, but coretemp works fine.

Seems on D975XBX Badaxe the 4 cores are registered differently from P5B Deluxe
D975XBX shows
1st cpu = cpu0 + cpu2
2nd cpu = cpu1 + cpu3
P5B Deluxe
1st cpu = cpu0 + cpu1
2nd cpu = cpu2 + cpu3
Strange the 1st core on 2nd cpu is always alot cooler!

George, I agree, your Asus CPU temperature sensor is wacked. Core temps look good though. You should be able to run quad P95/Orthos @ 3.6Ghz with about 1.575v set in BIOS (with a droop to around 1.46v!).
Try upping to the FSB to 450 and droping the multi to 8x. See if DDR-900 is faster than DDR-800 with the tighter timings on both the memory and MCH. I'd like a second data point for this...

Can you run Cinebench, eva? Where Kentsfield really shines is in the rendering department. Pi won't tell you a lot because it's a single-threaded bench. Cinebench is multi-threaded.

hrm I had it 24/7 on P5B @ 3.9. Realized it was overheating my single stage a bit though :). Getting it fixed up that is for sure. I just left everything on auto. Tried that but FSB seems limited to around 400-405FSB right now even with maxed out vfsb at 1.4v and vmch at 1.65v heh.
At >405FSB when quad benchmarks are run i.e. quad pi or stressprime it will reboot after a few seconds or minutes.
Would water cooling NB on P5B Deluxe help a higher fsb max for kentsfield without volt mods though ?

I can go as high as 488 FSB....
Cooling still remains as air on the MCH....still not sure what to think about what could be the limiting factor(s) for different board/CPU combinations.

Wierd, you think the board still needs a new bios or revision to fix that?
I mean Kentsfield = Core 2 Duo X 2. There aren't any major architecture differences between the two

Could be the interaction between the 2xCore2s they are communicating through some bridge type of thing for lack of a more scientific explanation.

Yes, this is likely the problem.
To maintain cache coherency, the two dies in a Kentsfield must use the FSB.

yeah which mod is required for just a FSB boost ? I'd be happy to be able to get 425FSB with kentsfield right now heh
It is complicated and the answer would be all of the above in the previous post. I am meeting with Asus tomorrow and hopefully will have an answer that can be explained without needing 7200 words. I do know that internally they have it running at 450FSB with several changes that will probably make it into the next board revision. At least for now the highest I have seen on the current P5B-Deluxe boards is 407FSB and it was not 24/7 stable.

If you are able, could you inquire about the 330 range fsb wall I and others seem to be hitting when OCing the QX6700 on the P5W-DH? (See my QX6700/P5W-DH/Vapochill thread). Thanx.
