I took many pics last night of how I managed to get my Scythe Infinity installed, it seems the same issue may exist with some of the bottom HS touching, I had already dremmeled out a small amount for the P5W DH so it would not touch so that's probably why I had no issues with it.
The Scythe Infinity bottom fin does rub against the HS of the NVchipset but it still works fine, so without very much fuss it will work with this board.
If anyone is interested I was able to get 1100mhz on the 6400C4 @ 5-5-5-15 2.2v with about 3 errors in memtest in 8 hrs testing (overnight), I expect with 2.3v those errors will go away.
I have many pics of the setup including my installation of 8x120mm fans in the Coolermaster 830, best case I've ever used and I've had more than I can count. The best part of it is the second 8800 GTX card I still had enough room to reach in and move a jumper and connect a fan power on the MB so plenty of airflow unlike my old TT case. Plus it is the only 8800GTX SLI certified case for good reason.
In 30 min I'll be home happily installing XP SP2 on a custom CD I slipstreamed with all the 680i drivers. If anyone would like pics I'd be happy to submit them, I will be posting results of 2560x1600, 1600x1200, and default 1280x1024 3dmarks06 tonight. :woot: very excited to have the fastest stuff again for what ? another 3-4 months? I might not have upgraded had BF2142 started to lag requiring me to remove all AA from it.
Glad I waited to start getting into Oblivion and Fear, I was discourged not being able to use HDR + AA and fear lagged with all settings on high 2560x1600 now I should be able to fully enjoy them.

Actually CompUSSR has the 680i & 1000 Watt on sale for $249.99 each (a steal) some of it is instant and some are rebates. I elected to use BFG because during my 7900 GTX nightmare (had to swap 4x) I developed a close relationship with their senior tech. If you recall many 7900 GTX cards were dying and I was not spared the agony.
With newly released hardware support is very important to me the three founders of BFG are all active gamers and used to be execs at Visiontek, now they own their own company. When I emailed my displeasure of the 7900 GTX problem initially because regular support channels required $15 cross-ship fee and it would be sent ground their VP of Marketing gave me a dedicated support guy to assist. Also the PSU is Lifetime warranty (amazing) I believe the video cards are too.
Most importantly though CompUSA has a TAP program so everything I buy gets put on "technology assurance plan" so if I have any "unexpected failures" I get a credit for the full purchase price.
Anyway onto most important things, pictures will be forthcoming in a few mins, I am testing now in memtest my 6400C4 @ 1128mhz 2.2v. I think my issues last night with errors were from the vcore CPU set to 1.53v which I thought it was 1.56 like I set it for. Now that I've set 1.6v it shows up as 1.56v which is what is needed for me to run 3.5G
Grabbing memory stick from camera now, the pics are at 8mpixels so I'll have to shrink them down to 800x600 to be more manageable. Pics in less than 1 hour of everything! :woot:

Here they are lemme know if any questions, testing 1124 on ram right now seems Test #7 in memtest only error and bumping from 2.2v-2.3v gave more errors, 2.25v got 1 error in 2 passes, so now 2.27v so far 3 passes for test 7 no errors, hopefully will be done with final max mem OC testing and move on to load XP and some 3dm06 8800 GTX SLI testing. Anyone know for sure which pair of connectors to use for SLI. I've seen some people using front pair and others using back pair, does it even matter?

Hey Pentium, what version of the 6400C4s do you have? I just got a set from the Egg that is v2.1 (I believe). So far, they have worked great on my 680i board, but I am hitting a hard fsb wall at 449. At 449, they are still running 4-4-4 with no problems @ 2.1v.
What is the highest sync fsb you have gotten so far? Our rigs are similiar.

I believe I am running unlinked? Still not very familiar with how this board OCs, running 1556 FSB I believe with 1124 memory 2.27v
I bought my 6400C4 8/11/06 and I just verified they are 6404 v2.1 also. I purchased another pair last week and had some issues with the pair for my wife's PC (my old P5W DH) they certainly don't clock anywhere near what mine do.
BTW I just touched my pair of sticks while memtesting and they aren't even warm I can barely detect any heat from them so this cooling I have setup is really very good 76'F ambient room temp.
Any utilities that are working yet with 680i, I read ntune crashes, I'd like to be able to monitor temps and OC video maybe.
Thanks

Seems like ALOT of voltage on that chip for that speed but otherwise things look good. I would check to see if you can get it done a bit. I am also setting up pretty much the same setup as you. Only difference is C2D Quad rather then E6600.

That ticket was laying around my computer room wife and I went when she was in Miami (wasn't as much fun as we thought it would be) she turns off the damn A/C and it was hotter than my C2D in there.
Check out the deals on Comp's website ending 11/18/06 BFG 680i @ 249.99 & 1000W also 249.99 great saving. I had almost everything except the case and PSU delivered overnight AM for $27 shipping and they came from 4 different warehouses.

nTune has been working OK for me.. there are 2 components to it, one that monitors volts and temps and another that allows you to tweak stuff.
The Ocing portion of it is crude, but it has allowed my to play with OCing my 8800gtx. DO NOT use the auto detect feature or it will lock. So far, I can get 640/2160 stable with no problems. With conroe at 3.8ish I get about 20k even in 3dm05 (no tweaks).

Also-- I agree the C4 sticks run quite cool, even with volts on them. I still have a 120mm fan on them just for kicks.
I noticed I was able to change timings to 4-3-3-8 with no hassle. This was good for about a 1/10 of a second in Pi.
With the 449 fsb wall I am hitting now, I havent had a chance to see how the sticks scale to 500ish, but hopefully a new bios will bust this open.

I've read the "requirements" for that step up program, if anyone hasn't used it please do some reading definately sounds like jumping through hoops to get it done. I really chose the BFG MB and PSU due to availability and credits I had at CompUssr, also reading that BFG 680i was just reference nvidia board figured it was a safe bet. Also many reads of BFG tech support say I'm not the only one impressed with the way they handle their customers especially high end each replacement 7900 GTX (3-4 total I think) was sent overnight.

Congrats on your rig! I really like that case. I was so close to getting one. I saw the black one and thought that would be my next case.
I am going through the evga "Step-Up" program now...for the second time. The first time was horrible stepping up from a pair of 7800GTX's to a pair of 7950GX2's. The problem wasn't all evga's fault as I was originally in line for the Superclocked version of the 7900GTX's prior to them getting pulled from the program. I waited in the queue for 111 days. I ended up selling the 7950GX2's straight away b/c they were no better (actually a little worse) than my 7800GTX's. Got a deal on the 7900's I wanted originally and jumped into the queue when the 8800GTX's were announced last week. The program is going so well this time that I will have my cards tomorrow! Total "Step-Up" time of ONE week. I was pretty impressed. It also helps that I am 70 miles from evga headquarters and shipping is next day via ground service.
Looking forward to your progress and congrats again!

Glad to hear you like our TAP program. For things like pc hardware, its invaluable and truly a no brainer for us overclockers. If it gets killed from heat or volts...how the hell would a compusa technician or cashier (who would probably be the only one looking at it) have any idea? They wouldn't, so you get your money back or whatever is equivilant at that time.

Yes she has the old parts, but used to game, now she is working a lot bringing home files from the office so we cancelled our EQ2 accounts, besides there was just too much time invested in EQ2 to have any fun and we haven't played in over 4 months.
I usually play 1 FPS (Battlefield 1942, BF2, and now 2142) and my main passion is really good RTS games, I hope that C&C3 lives up to the hype. I am probably getting rid of her SLI cards (P5W DH anyway) and just put in the extra 7900 GT I have here.

I've loaded Windows XP Pro SP2 32bit after memtesting for almost 2 days to find my sweet spot for max OC on ram. Unfortunately I've encountered a few issues during my Windows install.
1. Warm reboots hung during post (during normal restarts of XP install)
2. One of the warm reboot hangs cleared the BIOS completely
3. One of my fan headers appears to be dead
4. Waiting for XP to startup the bar went across the screen about 20 times and never got to a logon prompt (usually bar flickers and doesn't even get across once before it is at a logon prompt
5. Front panel header HDD + was opposite to what it said in the manual (apparently EVGA 680i has same issue) I think maybe the power is reversed too as my power button light is only lit when system is off but maybe this is by design of case because it is very bright blue or design of MB.
I am hoping most of the above (except fan connector) has to do with finding proper FSB/RAM settings or that bios needs to mature a bit. I have all drivers loaded now with SLI good to go. Installing 3dmarks06 now for some of the real fun, I have the advanced version so I have all my old projects for real comparisons at 1280x1024, 1600x1200, 2560x1600
I'll post numbers shortly. Waiting for partitions to format, have to leave for work in 2.5 hrs but I think I'll get through a few runs of 3dmarks06 before I need to go if no problems encountered. I'll post non-SLI 8800 GTX different resolutions and then SLI at the above mentioned resolutions, clean install of windows, no XFI drivers yet and logged in as local administrator.
pentium777
11-16-2006, 03:50 AM
It looks like I might not be able to get those numbers after all (this morning), I've had some quirky things happening, most troubling is that during "loading personal settings" my mouse/keyboard/system hung. Restarted, changed RAM speed, went back into XP and found that my appearance was changed to Windows Classic Style. When I changed to XP style and hit apply it said Please Wait and system hung again.
I've been doing this work as a hobby and career for many years and used to program on TRS-80 Model 1 with 16k ram and cassette backup so not a noob.
I think it is probably some tweaks in bios or possible more stable bios for overclocking. Yep I did not run my system at stock speeds to see if everything worked fine because frankly it isn't what Nvidia or board makers are selling it as. In the 680i manual on the first page it says "Extreme Overclocking" "Extreme FSB" etc etc so I feel with the investment and quality SLI certified components there should be no issue.
Going to fool around with rebooting some more cold and warm boots etc to see if I can keep replicating the issue, I did turn off Virtualization Technology which when I saved and exited bios it performed a power cycle. Maybe it'll help, maybe not. If anyone else has read any solutions please let me know.
After more testing..... 10 more reboots and 4 hangs on post, I left to go eat breakfast with Windows at desktop came back to screensaver (Windows XP logo default) stopped and system was hung yet again.
Going to change ram and set to standard DDR2-800 to see if these issues clear up
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update
Didn't change anything but rather installed 3dmarks 2006 and have run my first default test, the single 8800 GTX is indeed FASTER than 2x7900 GTX it is a fact now, my previous stock 7900 GTX SLI score was 10,900-11,000 now with same speeds 11,166 for 8800 GTX Single this could very well be just due to updated drivers as my previous was 85.96 for 975x drivers.
Below is default 1280x1024 and I added comment description to it

Not too happy right now, and have to get going to an appointment early, will mess around with this some more after work today.
Back again and running late to appointment but here's what happened, with my random issues I decided to reset CMOS to all defaults meaning 2.4Ghz DDR2-800 etc only options changed was the raid option on. BIG problems as it automatically set 5-5-5-18 1T timings, I am telling you I don't see 1T timing working, Windows froze most of the time before I could get into Orthos and if I was to run Orthos it would error immediately. Memtest revealed thousands of errors instantly also. Changed to Expert and set 4-4-4-12 2T, this worked ok so far. Seems I'm going to need to leave Orthos going today for a bit.
Last update until after work, Orthos Blended stops within a couple mins, Memtest seems to pass OK, very confused/frustrated. Hopefully others have some bios settings since I'm at all defaults right now except setting ram to expert and 4-4-4-12-2T :-/
Very pissed Orthos blended will not work even with setting ram timings manually and setting ram voltage to 2.0, 2.1, 2.2 nothing helps, I'm very shortly going to return this BS and install a single 8800 GTX into my P5WDH, my ram worked perfectly in it.

I bought my 6400C4 8/11/06 and I just verified they are 6404 v2.1 also. I
This is interesting because the v2.1 has the Promos chips not the one's from Micron
CM2X1024-6400C4 6404V2.1 0635221-22 = PROMOS 667MHZ, CL5, .09u 64Mx8
CM2X1024-6400C4 6404v1.1 0626099-3 = Micron, 64Mx8, 2-667 CL5, Rev D
CM2X1024-6400C4 6404v1.2 0620097-1 = Micron, 64Mx8, 2-667 CL5, Rev D

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=117720
so its interesting that you get 1100mhz with these v2.1 sticks at @ 5-5-5-15 2.2v

Ok if anyone can assist with ideas it would be great.
I can't run Orthos Blended for more than 1-3 minutes.
This is the same 6400C4 Corsair that I used for 3 months in my P5WDH board, I still have the P5WDH board (wife now) and I have two identical 6400C4 sets, if I swap them my PC has NO issues running Orthos blended (waited 45 minutes no errors) and her PC runs my sticks again with no errors.
Swapped them back again and my Orthos errored in 28 seconds! What in the world could be going on??? Running stock on everything how is this possible? I guess I should at least feel good that I've troubleshot it down to this. Maybe clear CMOS and start over again? Something is definately awry. :(
Updated!! Read on anandtech at least 2 people with same exact issue I am having with Orthos blended failing very quickly usually <1min. They didn't have an extra pair of the same exact RAM to test with like I fortunately did. Here is what I've found after many hours tonight. Current bios seems to be very picky, that exact same pair of sticks I was screaming about today is actually 20 min stable now and still going with 2.0v instead of 2.2v and 2.1v. Just doesn't make sense but I'll roll with it until BFG sends me the new bios promised by tomorrow afternoon. Will update with more info soon and hopefully 3dmark06 scores for all resolutions including SLI scores.

Just received this tested BIOS this morning, I believe I have permission to distribute it, getting verification now that it is the Final released and tested bios for the BFG 680i board.
If you need it just holla at me.
I recieved 15000-15100 points in 3dmarks06 @ default 1280x1024 last night SLI
Then ran 2560x1600 in SLI and received 9478 without any overclocking whatsoever. I am most impressed as my old score was 5100-5400 in 2560x1600. Not quite double but 85% or so. Compared to the 35%-40% increase at 1280x1024 we know for sure CPU limited....

11-19-2006, 06:33 PM
I don't fool around with low resolution defaults as who the hell buys $1300 in video cards to play at 1280x1024 ? In case you wondered 1280x is huge CPU limited and not even worth purchasing 8800 GTX unless you pump 1600x +16AA or something like that
Here we go..... Finally THINK I have my system stable now with DDR2-1012 speeds @ 3.5G E6600
Here's what you want to check out the scores which from my project search and compare show 1600x1200 WR (probably no one else cared to submit or do higher res or pay for the software maybe)
All 3DMark06 scores with 2xBFG 8800 GTX SLI on BFG 680i NO Overclock whatsoever on the video cards, also you mind find this VERY interesting going from DDR2-780 to DDR2-1012 moved my score from 9400-11447 in 2560x1600 and in 1600x1200 from 9883-14492 (wow!) as I figured 1280x1024 didn't change but only 200 points.
1600x1200 (DDR2-1012)

1600x1200 (DDR2-780)

I had a similar issue with my board. (EVGA) Actually my case was worse because the board didn't even boot. (Something like 'C1' error on the debug LED) The sticks were proven up to 1080MHz on 975X, so I was totally clueless what's happening. Luckily I had another pair of RAM that worked with the board so I could get it up and going. Then I switched back to the other pair, and bam! It works. This happens everytime I clear CMOS.

Luckily I had another pair of RAM that worked with the board so I could get it up and going. Then I switched back to the other pair, and bam! It works. This happens everytime I clear CMOS.
Ok I am really glad I'm not the only one that's experienced these strange issues. I'm hoping that I've finally got some stable settings now. I think I need to reload my XP OS due to a few crashes experienced during my testing, no biggy as I slipstreamed all my board's drivers into the CD for this reason.

Wait a minute. Your results @2560 are surely breath-taking, but I'm having a hard time digesting the enormous difference in results by memory frequency. Did you run the tests more than once and made sure there is no outlier?
Well to be honest I am positive on my final results right now, I never overclocked the video for sure, it is possible though that during my optimizing of bios settings and changing the voltages for MCP, SPP, FSB that something in my subsystem opened up even more than first benchmarks.
I ran many 2560x1600 tests tonight with PCI-E @ 101 & 135 difference was about 20-30 points only so I put back to 101
Then I ran tests with that Nvidia Graphics Ex Enabled option, basically same score with 10-20 point difference which could just be normal margin difference.
These tests were run with no antivirus, no antispyware, basically clean OS install with only drivers installed, XP PRO SP2 and didn't even load all the updates from MS.

I just took a closer look at your ORB screens, and noticed that in SM 3.0 scores/FPS nearly halved. I'm more than willing to believe SLI wasn't working correctly for whatever reason. Since you have a paid version, maybe you should run each game tests separately with SLI indicator turned on.

Last time I tried to run Aquamarks it crashed during the bench, this was with my 7900 GTX SLI setup on 975 board though, isn't that benchmark dead as in you can't submit and no one updates the software anymore?

Very good point, actually I just checked and it seems the 1600x1200 score DID have SLI turned off my notes even said 1xBFG....
However I double and triple checked and in the section Co-Operative Adapters for 2560x1600 it says Yes
Here is link to 1600x1200 with it turned off
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=640287
Here are both links of my 2560x1600 with different DDR2 speeds, you'll see co-operative adapters says yes on both. Plus I had noted 2xBFG 8800 GTX
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=640340
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=649339
It certainly is possible SLI didn't work for some reason or another at that time though.

Yep, I have yet to see anyone run it with 8800GTX SLI. I'd like to see >300k :)

Anyone having success in locating these modules? I've contacted many distributors both online and in the reseller market and coming up dry, the only place I see it sold right now is PC Progress for $704 and they show not so great ratings and not listed on Corsair's site as a reseller.
I'd love to get my 680i @ DDR2-1200+ @ 5-5-5-15 currently I'm limited to 1012 @ 5-5-5-15 with my 6400C4s
You'd think as expensive $610-$700+ these would be available somewhere.

This memory???
So do you recommend the Motherboard?
I bought it from compusa idk what the pat? whatever deal is you mentioned how much is it??? and how does it help?
I have the p5b delux wifi & am not so pleased with the results as I think it is memory picky & I have 2GB DDR2 PC2-6400 800MHz CL 4-4-4-15 / Platinum / Revision 2 / Mirrored XTC Heatspreader Dual Channel Kit OCZ2P800R22GK :P & am not sure if I should take the both back & opt for something else. Tx for any advice if you have the time.

Just use ctrl+Print Scrn and post the image.
Great results but enough with the SLI, how about the max FSB??? :D

That is a good pair of memory for that board at a decent price but that OCZ ram should be doing as good if not better, however if you plan on SLI the board to have right now despite minor quirks is the 680i board, pair that with 9136C5D ram which is supposed to be designed for that chipset and you'll be in overclocking heaven.

It fits but you need to most likely shave a couple mm off the bottom side of the HS to avoid touching the caps on side of CPU. Cooler is a tight fit no doubt about it and install is probably not for noobs to try, but very little mod and I'm really not into mods but was able to get it done easily.
