Any ideas what and when the next NForce chipset / mobos are likely to come our way

Are you talking about the NF3 or another revvision of the NF2...

If you are talking about the NF3...that will be a workstation platform, they won't be for gamers or normal users...make for a great folding rig with dual opts though...

Thinking more about the next desktop version bud.

The nforce3 has single Opteron AFAIK. Also, it will have AGP slot and so hopefully be the equivalent of the Canterwood, which is doing well for people as it seems to have gone from workstation to high end mainstream, due to the overclokcing options etc.

Nfirce3 / Opteron could be the surprise package of the year in regards to benchmarking.

nF2 ULTRA 400 should have S-ATA controller integrated on the new south bridge, isn't it?!!??!?:smileysex

NF2 Ultra 400 is suppose to be a A1/C1 chip, it will make the 400FSB standard :)
S-ATA should come inside the SB Chip with the Crush in the Hammer boards. I think. Correct me if I am wrong, but the S-ATA is not yet to be in the SB.

There will no doubt be boards released marketed as NF2 Ultras, but its almost all marketing.

The Rev. 2 boards have the new NB chip and will do 400 FSB without problems.

No mention whatsoever about changes to the SB with the 400 ultras though.

The Ultra chipset is currently being placed onto some of the NF7-S Rev2 baords.

Easy to recognise as it is purely black on the top, there is no silver circule in the middle of the chipset.

My A7N8X Deluxe v2.0 has the "ultra 400 chipset". It does not have SATA in the southbridge.

Because Opteron/A64 chipsets connect to one CPU via HyperTransport and because each Opteron has 2-3 HT links, mother baord makers can build dual, quad or 8 CPU systems based on nForce3. In fact, any chipset for Hammers can be built this way. It's not the chipset that decides the number of CPUs, it's simply how many sockets you build on the motherboard as they all connect via their HT links.

Noone has shown anything but single CPU nForce3 boards yet.

I don't really think so.. your MB is 400MHz ready, but doesn't have the ULTRA chipset... I THINK! :):toast:

Nforce2 chipset = Northbridge

MCP/2/T = southbridge

i believe the ultra 400 is the new A1/C1 stepping, 400MHz FSB certified.

adding SATA to the southbridge would probably end up being called the MCP-ST or something along those lines.

or i'm completly wrong

Well, the nForce2 chipset consists of two chips: The SPP or IGP plus the MCT2 or MCP2-T. SPP is without graphics, IGP has graphics. -T has Firewire and 5.1 Dolby.

The "ULTRA" is just a marketing gimmek used by some mobo mfgrs. to sell the new rev 2.0 and nothing more or less!!!

I dunno... the words ont he box saying "ultra 400" chipset are pretty plain as day if you ask me.

Trust me. It is the A1/C1 revision chipset, same as in the Abit NF7-S and the new Epox boards. Nothing different, just advertising to make you feel like your getting something someone else isn't!

Ultra = 400fsb certified chipset = A1/C1. So he has got a NF2 Ultra, that's all that it means.
