Now im trying to pick out a mobo for my upcomming c2d build, but i've been hearing in xfire you cannot hook up a xfi card?

I have an x850 agp card, so i dont know how big the higher end cards are, but i can fit my xfi right next to it, its a snug fit with my water block, but it works.

Is this just a thing with the huge air heatsinks on these cards? or does it just not fit ?

Like you said its the heatsink on the double slot cards that dont allow you to use the pci slot. If your going with single slot cards the only issue would be limited airflow for the second card.

With the changes in the world of gpus i dont see this as a problem anymore considering it would make more sense to buy 1 8800gtx or 8800gts over 2 ati xfire cards

@hilfiger
I dont understand what you mean about the aw9d-max letting you down. considering you have a 6700, the aw9d-max should allow you go up to 4ghz with sufficient cooling prime stable. The only people i wouldnt recommend this board for are ones with allendales or E6600s.

agreed dont get the AWD Max. Max FSB sucks and no new official bios since 9/15. Two months between bios releases give me a break!! Stay away.

i guess i may be a little biased because mine goes all the way to 445 fsb. I feel like this board isnt any worse than most of the 975X mobos. There are some that are very happy with the asus 975X boards there are people that cant push past 410.

If i were you i'd probably wait a couple days and let the dust settle on the 680i boards.

But im using water cooling, so it would be able to fit right ?

Is this board really that bad, im getting a E6400 so is this board still weak on high FSB or has any Bios's solved the problem.

I think the AW9D MAX is a great board. Both of my C2D stable 3.8Ghz on water. (E6600, X6800).

But the Abit support is not as good as it used to be, back in the IC7 days.
