I would appreciate some advice please.

I currently run two caddied drives set to master , the housing plugged into IDE channel 1

I would like to place my main drive WD 8meg cache , in the case on the sata controller and retain the second caddied drive on the IDE channel.

What I would like is when the rig boots it checks for the IDE drive first and if connected boots to that drive

However if the IDE drive is not in the caddie housing the rig then boots to the main drive on the serial adapter.

Both drives are running XP Pro.

Can anyone see a problem with this config with XP seeing a secondary drive eg Sata having booted into the caddied IDE drive first.

Could some kind soul run me thro what drivers I have to install , what bios settings to change etc in order to do this.

I would like to be able to do this without reinstalling XP if at all possible.

Or am I being a bit thick here and I can install the serial adapted drive and boot to either drive if both are in the rig and connected at the same time.

in the bios set the first boot device to hdd-0, set the second boot device to serial ata

itll then boot the serial ata if the ide drive isnt there.

for sata to work youll need to install the sata drivers off the floppy that comes with the mb, which you should have already done anyway cos xp would ask u for drivers when u first booted, unless u turned off the sata controller in the bios.
