Well, Hello there,
Im like proberly the newest person here to overclock my E6300..
well.. Since on E-S found alot of information about everything really..So
one morning' before college .. (well.. Yesterday :P) I set out to officially overclock my C0re2Duo.. and .. i did ..:toast:

How to overclock you're DS3 and Core2duo without even trying!

1. First thing's first, update your BIOS to the latest version (F5 as of 14/09/2006). Download it here: http://tinyurl.com/zcvdd then use either @BIOS (install off of CD, apparently the one on the internet is a bit borked) or follow the DOS guide: http://tinyurl.com/fltmg

2. Now you have a fresh new BIOS, get yourself into it by hitting Del as the system starts.

3. Once the BIOS screen is up, hit Ctrl+F1 to turn on all the tweaking extras (required for all Gigabyte mobos).

4. Go into the Advanced BIOS Features section and set the following to Disabled:
- Limit CPUID Max. to 3
- CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E)
- CPU Thermal Monitor 2(TM2)
- CPU EIST Function

Why are we disbaled-ing them? They're throttling functions that will throttle back the CPU... which we don't particularly want.

5. Hit Esc to go back to the Main Menu then enter the PC Health Status section and the Fan Speed Control Method to Disable (not necessary in the long run, but I do it anyway since the fan is pretty quiet at full speed).

6. Hit Esc to go back to the Main Menu.

7. Enter the MB Intelligent Tweaker (M.I.T.) section and do the following:
- Set CPU Host Clock Control to Enabled
- Set CPU Host Frequency (MHz) to 376
- Set PCI Express Frequency(MHz) to 100
- Set System Memory Multiplier to 2.00
- Set DRAM Timing Selectable to Manual
- Set CAS Latency Time to 5
- Set DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay to 5
- Set DRAM RAS# Precharge to 5
- Set Precharge dealy (tRAS) to 12
I figured I'd go with 5-5-5-12 since it's bound to work

8. Fit F10 on the keyboard and respond "Y" to whether you wish to change your settings and exit.

Congratulations, your E6300 1.86GHz is now running at 2.8GHz (and your DDR2 running at 376MHz)

Removed..forgot to remove serial =/
AFTER
Removed..forgot to remove serial =/

Done. Yup thats it! it should take you what? 5 mins? the longest thing and most risky part is franklu the BIOS flash
If you really want to make sure everything's hunky dory then run MemTest86+ - downloadable from here: http://www.memtest.org/#downiso - for a good 5 passes to be nigh on 100% sure the RAM is fine.

Then run Dueling Prime95 instances (omgzpunlol) overnight to ensure the CPU is fine.
Download here: http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm
How to Run for Dual Core: http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16446

I did all this with the following basic setup:
Core2duo E6300 (stock speed..and all)
Gigabyte 965P-DS3
2x 512 Kingston 4300 (266mhz) (week 50 2005)
Nvidia 6600 256
2 x Samsung SATA2 @ SCSI ..

( im not sure what extra point's you'll get in 3dmark 01, becuase i've got some :banana::banana::banana::banana:ty 6600.. and i only got 1500 ..but since the new OC i get 16595! )

It should be noted I'd consider this build near-silent, even with the CPU fan control disabled (ie CPU fan at full speed) and CoD2'in <3

Thanks, I'm lookin' forward to my stay here,
Thanks for the info =)

Limit CPUID Max. to 3

CPUID is an x86 CPU instruction that allows for priviledged level access (ie, Ring0, further ie, only used in kernel mode/protected access from Windows) that allows for some rather basic information about the CPU name/family/model/stepping, as well as some other functional properties, etc to be determined. It has NOTHING to do with throttling. The value passed in the EAX register (1, 2, 3, 4) detmines just what information is passed. Unfortunately Windows NT (and older) totally freaks (read: BSOD) if the CPU reports anything other than "1", "2", and "3" reponses. (Yes, I am dumbing this down.) This BIOS option just prevents newer CPUs for BSOD'ing Win NT installations as a result of this KNOWN problem by blocking the actual interrupt. Please don't think this affects your OC in any way.

Corrections - 376 FSB times 7 multiplier is 2632 MHz, not 2800. To get to 2.8 GHZ you need 400 FSB. The latest bios for the DS3 is F7 10/12/2006. My 6300 and DS3 are running at 2.8 GHz with C1E, TM2, and EIST enabled - at modest overclocks they often work just fine. I agree you should disable them for big overclocks as CPU may crash when the voltage is dropped.

Umm, F7 is the latest GA-965P-DS3 non-beta BIOS as of 2006/10/12. GA-965P-DS3 BIOS (http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/BIOS_Model.aspx?ClassValue=Motherboard&ProductID=2314&ProductName=GA-965P-DS3)

When I first read this post title I thought it was going to be one of those joke threads. Oh look my processor was 3.2 ghz and I simply put it in, must be magic. I guess more or less it was just settings put into the computer to overclock...

old news nothing new. but nice to see you got yours overclocked nicely.

now throw it up to 400mhz FSB on auto vcore, gmch and fsb and pci-e
lock the pci-e freq to 100.

you might have to increase the vcore depending on your cpu to like 1.33 or 1.35 but 400x7 or 400x8 is nothing those cpu's will do that blind folded

Thank you Capt Obvious! Now we know how to overclock our processors to2.8Ghz.... I mean 2.63Ghz! :)

j/k decent guide for noobs, but most people in this forum are far from that.

Im a :banana::banana::banana:ing noob to overclockin'
i only started last week xD so 0.8*ghz is like.. m/ rwooo!
but yeah i know, F7 is latest ..copied the wrong one :S
and yes i know its 2.68 not 2.8
stupid keyboard :P
but i'll do what you said, btw, if i go wrong.. like.. is there any possiblity that my pro'/board could like break on me?> i know there obviously it.. but with the settings' you gave me, would it do any damage?
im on a stock PSU =|

anyway .. =)

1st, get a new psu. Cheap psu's are just that. Cheap, and usually in every aspect of them. You run'em to hard, and they have been know to cause fires. Also, a cheap psu can give you crazy instability sometimes. I had a "680 watt" psu, that could not handle my STOCK x2 3800 and stock 7800gt during a game. Voltage would drop to 10.9v while gaming @stock. I had to undervolt the cpu, and run it @ 1400mhz to be able to play games.

that is a bunch of bull about cheap PSU's...

That was a bunch of bull about cheap psu's.

And besides...

Why give the guy :banana::banana::banana: when he's just trying to contribute?

I could see it from the start.

I could bash a lot of you guys about. Be NICE. Be civil.

OCing is pretty cool huh?. I'm a noob too but I was amazed on how easy manipulating stuff was in the BIOS so I can understand your excitement. Its basically free performance that most people don't even realize is there.

You really need to remove (with paint) the first screenshots text under 'kingzley' - as that is a unique code relating to your Windows XP serial code.
