First of all, is there two versions of Vista like XP?
Meaning, x32 and x64?
Secondly, is it better to go from XP x32 -> Vista
or XP x64 -> Vista.
Lastly, NCIX is offering windows xp -> vista coupons,
when you buy windows xp.
(I'm in need of OS right now anyways, for my dad's comp)
You think its worth it?
Note that the upgrade does not include Vista Ultimate.
Only up to Vista Professional.
Vista Professional good enough or is everything under
ultimate garbage, thus microsoft is allowing upgrades?
Thanks for your time and comments. :)

All builds of Vista except Windows Vista Starter, will include in the package both 32 bit and 64 bit version, but on separate DVD.

It might in the future, at the moment there isn't much support for 64 Bit applications and DX 10, you have the drivers for the cards whit DX10 but no games or 3D applications to use it - plus, the 64 Bit version same as Win XP 64 Bit doesn't have full driver support for all hardware out there.

If is for your daddy I guess not, that depend on your father's job/hobby :)

More then enough, but if I look back on some topics in this forum related to Win Vista policy and license agreement I wouldn't go for Vista, to much head acks for nothing - but this is a personal decision. ;)

Bought the Windows XP pro with vista upgrade coupon.
It was like $30 CAD more than just XP pro,
so I'll just work 3 hrs more at my PT job :p

I just bought XP Pro with the Vista upgrade coupon. The only problem is, in the fine print, the "customer" needs to receive the computer purchased between (I think it's) Oct 24, 2006 to somtime in March, 2007, with XP preinstalled by an "authorized system builder." Of course, I didn't know about that when I purchased it. Now I'm thinking they're not going to honor the upgrade since I built the computer myself. I guess I'll know more when the upgrade website goes live on the 6th.

The Express Upgrade is offered by OEM's. You can go from XP Media Center to Vista Home Premium.
From Dell it was a $10 option.

If I want the Vista Home Premium upgrade, would I need to install that over XP or could I do a fresh install? I'd much rather spend $150 than $240, but if the upgrade version doesn't allow fresh installs, I'll go ahead and spend the whole price.

This is from the redemption form:
ORDERING INSTRUCTIONS for upgrade version of Windows Vista Business:
1. This offer is available if you have purchased a PC preloaded with genuine Windows XP Professional or Windows XP Tablet PC Edition between October 26, 2006 and March 15, 2007 from an authorized system builder.
2. Verify that your receipt for your PC preloaded with Windows XP Professional or Windows XP Tablet Edition shows that your purchase date falls between the dates listed above. No exceptions will be made.
...
4. Mail to the address listed in Online Ordering section: (i) this completed upgrade redemption form, including the online order confirmation number in the space provided and (ii) a copy of your receipt from your authorized system builder. Only original upgrade forms supplied by an authorized system builder will be accepted.
As much as I would like to believe that I can get my upgrade, they refer to an "authorized system builder" and "preloaded" numerous times. Further, on the Microsoft website (granted for a different value-added product with the purchase of XP, they state that the builder themselves is exempt from receiving the upgrade). Just out of curiosity, but what makes you think that it will work?

I contacted Microsoft. They said you can do a clena install with an upgrade liscense. What will happen is after you put in the upgrade liscense, it will ask you to put in your XP disc just to verify you have one. So, I can do a clena install at an upgarde price!

Actually you can use the coupon without having to build a new PC, or buy a new PC with XP preloaded etc...
Just enter zeros where they ask for make and serial number of your computer, Microsoft will validate it anyway.
If you have any doubts just call Newegg for example, they will confirm this, and you have feedback on their products from people confirming just that, some didn’t know about this workaround and still don’t.
