Well i think its time I finally break down and buy a widescreen monitor, I need a few goodies to hold me over until I upgrade my PC in Dec anyway:) .
But I can't decide between the Samsung 205BW or the Viewsonic VX2025.
The 205BW is cheaper and I own a 17" Samsung 730N LCD and it been pretty nice to me but i also have heard a lot of good things about the Viewsonic.

Well, I got the same question like yours a few months ago and ended up with the VX2025WM. I'm in the process of RMAing my Viewsonic as it got some problems with it. I should've went with Samsung :(

widescreens are great.
ive heard good things about the samsung.
but if you want a cheaper solution, Acer has new AL1916W models with 700:1 contrast and 5ms response time.

I have the Samsung 205BW now, bought it last week.
Really a great monitor for a low price.
I love it, much better then my old 17inch tft samsung.
205BW comes with DVI cable included:)

another choice could be
The E207WFP 20'' @ 289.00 (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=320-5123) you could look on ebay for some coupons.
1680x1050 pixels resolution for sharp and brilliant images of text and graphics
Offers viewing angle of 160° — both horizontal and vertical
800:1 contrast ratio and up to 300 cd/m² brightness for excellent color accuracy and uniformity
5 ms response time reduces ghosting and jagged edges

actually, now that ive seen your system specs, id suggest going with no bigger than 19".
you have a very weak video card, and wouldnt be able to play games at a native res of 1680x1050.
but if your not gaming it wont matter.

I have two widescreen monitors.
I bought a Dell 2005FPW last year and I got a Samsung 205BW this year.
I'm not impressed by the 205BW really. Colours seemed mess up but got those slightly better by fiddling with the colour. It's certainly bright but the viewing angles I feel are horrible compared to the Dell. Overall, I feel the Samsung lacks the quality but it is cheaper.
If I was given the choice, I'd go for the Dell 2007 which is new out.
thunderstruck!

He said he's upgrading. Anyway, what are the benefits of widescreen?

its better for watching movies, and games that support it,(even ones that dont officially)
you can get a wider field of view.
for gaming i find my widescreen gives me a much more immersive experience, i wouldnt think of going back to a non 16:10 or 16:9 ratio.

notice how you get an extra 15% or so viewing area on the sides.

Thanks for the advice, I just ordered the 205BW from newegg and my sig is a little outdated I have a X1600 Pro right now for my video card but i'll be doing a full PC upgrade when G80 and R600 come out.
The Dell 2007 was a little too much for my wallet and Newegg gave me a free photo printer w/ the 205BW:)
