I have a thermalright ultra-120 and i want to lap it, since the base is not even close to being smooth :/
Has anyone here ever tried lapping a big ass HS like that, and if so, how did you do it... seems to me that the bulk and weight of it will make it quite difficult...

Unless you're overclocking like crazy, the 2-3c difference I don't think is worth the time. I have my 6600 at 3Ghz (stock voltage) and don't even need to run a fan against the cooler (just a Dell style ducted is all thats currently needed). Idle 32c and max is around 45c

While lapping, put your fingers on the BASE. NOT on the fins or any other parts of the HSF. If you're holding on to anything but the base, you won't get it flat. I had a big HSF like that once and I tried holding on to the top. It ended up worse than it was before. Hold onto the base and you won't have any problems. Just take it nice and slow.
