I installed a Zalman fan on my X850 Pro and hooked the fan cable in a silent mode (5V). For some reason, the fan was not working and I didn't know that. About a few minutes later, I realized that and hooked the fan cable in a normal mode (12V) and the fan was working. So, my PC was running for a few minutes with no GPU cooling. Is there a chance that I might have damaged the X850 Pro? So far, I haven't noticed any graphical artifacts, though.

No, it should be OK. If it didn't artifact like crazy or crash, that means you're good.
I played CS:S for a bit on my X800NP OVERCLOCKED with my VF700 fan off, LOL.
The only reason it survived for ~8 minutes without a hassle was cause my side fan was blowing acrossed it.

I doubt it

So, why wasn't the Zalman fan working in a silent mode? Maybe, my PS (380W) has reached its limit?
I have:
P4 2.8GHz w/ Zalman fan
2 DVD drives
3 Hard drives
1 GB memory
TV card
SB Audigy 2
120mm case fan

Silent Mode means the fan spins as little as possible.
And I don't see why you would need that with a Zalman anyways

I wanted to minimize the noise, so I first tried the silence mode. But, you're right, with the full mode, I hear nothing from the fan.
