I was going to order a Dell 2407 today, but thought why not give a LCD TV a try. I m not a Hardcore gamer, usually Movies n Music, The Games which i play most are usually COD/CS/Quake/BF and all FPS.

Long Story Short, i had been way too much Pissed by this, so decided to make a Thread. Wht should i buy

A Samsung Bordeaux 26" (http://www.samsung.com/in/products/tv/lcdtv/bordeaux/la26r71b.asp) + HD DVD Player (HDMI and all) (http://www.samsung.com/in/products/dvdplayer/hypevision/dvd_hd860.asp) + 8800GTS/GTX + Monster Cable THX certified Optical Cable.

OR

A Dell 2407 + 8800GTX..

Both Option will Cost me exactly the Same (if GTX in 1st option, then 150$ more), ALso PS i have a Logitech Z5500.

Plz help me decide this...

PS: I Play like 6 hrs MAX a Day, (Wht should i buy )

TIA

Go for the TV. I´ve seen a high grade LCD TV hooked to a laptop via DVI and the picture on the LCD TV was AMAZING! :slobber:
Both the desktop environment and the HD videos were great.

This 26" LCD TV has a 1366x768 resolution. That yields an extremely blocky .42mm diagonal dot pitch. For comparison, an average LCD computer monitor is .27mm with finer ones around .24mm. Some laptop screens are down at .17mm.

If you're sitting 6' away from the LCD TV watching movies, it'll probably look fine. But at 18-24" desktop distance, it'll look blocky -- especially for text.

If you were to get a lcd tv with 1080p go for it. If not I would get the Dell.

@BlueBiker, Thnx Dude, i will game/Surf (the internet) at about 2 feet away and See movies at like 5-6 feet away .. Will i still have a very good pic Quality ??

@16floz470ml: It is 720p. :(. thats the only prob. Besides its almost impossible to get 1080p in this price range.

get the lcd monitor... much better for surfing and gaming... and big enough to view films in good quality!

According to specs, the LA26R71B probably has better colors. But it has the resolution of a small 17" LCD monitor stretched all the way to 26". I would hate using it for anything besides TV/movies and gaming, but it's your $$$.

Attached is an extreme closeup comparison of how your initial message would look on the Dell 2407 (left, .27dp) versus the Samsung LA26R71B (right, .42dp).

The Dell has much finer pixels, and more than twice as many with 1920x1200 versus 1366x768.

Get the Dell 2407fpw Rev.02 or newer.
The pixel pitch is a lot smaller on a monitor and the resolution on the 2407fpw is greater than a 1080p TV, so the image will look much shaper.
It has HDCP, so you can play HD movies too.
I dont know the real response time on that Samsung TV, but the 2407fpw is fast enough for gaming. Most dont see ghosting and if its visible its not a big deal.
Make sure you get a Rev.02 or newer, because those fix the blurry text and banding issues.
Buy your Dell 2407fpw through Dell so its easier to replace if something goes wrong.

Excuse my idiocy, but I don't get the image. The pixel placing looks exactly the same to me. Only difference to me is that the one on the left has a smaller zoom to the one on the right.
If they had the same letter size (same zoom) they would look identical... what am I missing?

get the monitor. no point in getting lcd tv to use as monitor because they have :banana::banana::banana:ty native res.

Sorry if it wasn't clear. The image shows how the two displays would look if you were the same distance from each and they were showing text of the same pixel dimensions. You're right that you could render smaller text on the TV, but it would look even blockier and less legible.

Since the OP keeps asking for more opinions and more votes, it may be that s/he really wants the TV and is seeking validation for the choice. Hey, get what'll make ya happy!

I m currently using a 17" CRT. If that answers ur Ques, i dunno which option should i take since i have never seen a HDTV or a Higher (19"+) LCD moniter personnaly, so i cant come to a conclusion of how will it really look....If u get wht i mean. :slap: :slap: :slap: . But since u all insist i must opt for a LCD moniter, i m kinda leaning towards it. But i wanna collect every possible Opinion n advice before i make my purchase.

(srry for my crappy eng :slapass: )

dude, there is no hdtv monitors! thats why you havent seen them.

seriously, you are driving this one into the ground,

the monitor will have better native res, and cost you less.

if you get the TV your images WILL looks crappy, and your games WILL likes horrible.

and because the TV panel is a PVA, you WILL have horrible ghosting making gaming look horrible.

now please quit fighting it!

Movies and games are fine on a HDTV IMO... it depends how much browsing you will do as to whether you will be annoyed by the TV tbh

I do a Lot of Web browsing, so u say a TV is bad for web browsing ?

Web browsing will look crappy on this low resolution LCD TV.
Emailing will look crappy on this low resolution LCD TV.
Word processing will look crappy on this low resolution LCD TV.
Spreadsheets will look crappy on this low resolution LCD TV.
Database programs will look crappy on this low resolution LCD TV.
Instant messaging will look crappy on this low resolution LCD TV.
Most Windows programs will look crappy on this low resolution LCD TV.

...but movies and games will probably look pretty good, as long as you're at least six feet from the display so that it doesn't look quite as grainy.

Face it: The Samsung LA26R71B LCD TV is a crappy PC monitor. Not because it's a TV, but because of how grainy it shows text. If you just wanna watch movies and you don't care how bad text looks, then just buy it already!

Yeah I would think so. Think of the console makers that are now making HD capable consoles. So you are going to tell me that they put these things out, when all of our high definition LCD and Plasma TV's are just going to ghost like crazy playing games? I don't think so, at least not when you buy smart.
