Hi, everyone. I just built my first computer, today! Horrah!

This is really a question for those with the board I named in the topic. I'm unable to get the Wifi working, at all. This is really the only loose end I have left with my PC besides OCing tomorrow. I'd really like to connect to the internet through the wifi first, though. I'm about half-asleep and not infront of the computer, now, but I'll try my best to explain the symptoms.

I screw in the antenna and set it on top of my computer. The antenna part is lifted up. I put in the Acer install disk (which I installed everything from), I had to manually search the CD for the Wifi driver because they don't have it listed in the Autorun menu. I setup and install the driver and utility, after it installs, I try to run the program, it closes instantly. If I look in the tray, the icon is there and the tooltip on it says something similar to "The device is not installed or working properly," also on sequential reboots of the computer Windows gives me a "Found New Hardware: PCI Interface" (which isn't my Audio or Video card, the only PCI interfaces I personally hooked up and installed and they both function fine. Lastly, if I go into the Device Manager, I have a "PCI Interface" with an exclaimation on it, details says it's not installed properly.

I'll try tomorow to installed the drivers from the website, but I'm not sure the drivers are the problem. Anyone have this problem and resolve it? If so, how?

Thank you.

I'm seeing the exact same issue. And I have almost the exact same setup. I don't think it's the drivers. I've installed the latest from Asus' web site and the result is the same. Any advice anyone?

I've been meaning to post this in the P5B problems and fixes post because I managed to figure out a fix.

Go to the device manager, you should have two things with exclamations. They will be USB hubs. Those are your targets. Download some modern USB drivers for your Operating System, I assume Windows XP because that's where I had the issue. Then, you want to disable the USB hubs with exclamation points, it should be right-click > disable. Then you want to go into the properties of the component, go to "Update Drivers", point it to the driver you just downloaded. It will install. After it installs Windows will prompt you saying that the device is disabled and it will enable it. Then you'll get a searching for hardware tooltip and it will find the USB hub. After that do the same for the second hub, however when it goes to enable that and searches for that hardware after it finds the USB hub it also finds "Realtek RTL8187 Wireless"! Almost immediately, you should get prompted to connect to a network and if you have one already set up, then you're in business.

Here is another run-down of the steps I just said:

* This was tested successfully under Windows XP Professional

1. Make sure you have two USB Root Hubs in your Device Manager with exclamation points (!)
2. Go on the internet (from another computer, obviously) and download USB drivers for your OS. They should all be generic as far as I know.
3. Go back to the Device Manager and disable the offending USB Hubs (Right-click > Disable)
4. Update the drivers (Right-click > Update Driver... > Install from a Specific Location > Don't search... > Point it to the drivers you downloaded)
5. When Windows prompts you to enable the component, say "Ok".
6. Repeat step 3-5 for the second USB hub...
7. If all went well, upon enabling the second component it should find the wireless card.

Hope this helps and to the OP of the P5B Bugs and Fixes post, feel free to add this fix.
