Okay so i finally get my conroe system up, windows verified, then i install the drivers to use the internet.
I get it running then all of a sudden it stops, freezes, i get an NT Authority error and my pc has to restart.
I then finally manage to get it working again, get ad aware downloaded, run it, can't update because of course the net isn't working again. I find spyware! already. I am on a wired network, it should have firewall on... but this is just stupid.
On top of that the net it constantly just not functioning, and i keep getting a "HOME" network showing up on the dialup networking... when i'm using cable...
I am on some linksys router. I just want to know what some others thing... i'm so freaking stressed right now and confused on how to get this working.

how could there be a virus... it's a fresh install of windows....
Also packets are being transfered even when i cannot do anything or use internet explorer. I'm confused because nothing should be moving if the internet is supposedly not working...
also my only antivirus is AVG and i need to download that, yet it's not working.

it's spyware/virus. When doing a fresh WinXP install without integrated SP2, you're doomed as soon as you connect to the internet. After an install + updates I always run HitmanPro and my favorite virus-scanner.
Always finds someting.

ah yes, i guess... Perhaps i will see if the net will last long enough to get SP2 installed, or i might have to install it on my friends laptop here... AGH.

Lol, sorry. I saw "huge network issues" and was expecting the thread to full of spanning tree/BGP/denial of service..... I'm taking it you don't have full version SP2 already?
make system restore to the date that your computer has been cleen,
then install first antivirus and firewall and then connect the internet - it's should solve your problem.

Well you said it had spyware on it already from a fresh install so more than likely a virus as well.
Also dump AVG and use Avast I have found AVG to be a load of pony.
Do start run and type msconfig and look at whats being loaded, that might help you alittle.
The virus is prolly blocking the AV sites as well then. I would wipe again and reinstall. Go on another machine thats clean and get all the software you need first.

is avast free like AVG? i have found AVG to work, i will rollback, update install it and have 2 antivirus if all else fails, then remove whichever(prolly AVG).

Yes avast is free. Try not to have 2 x anti virus as it will cause problems. Quickest way is to reinstall. That will fix it easily.

Here's the link for SP2. D/L it now, save it, and you'll always have it; no need to go to WinUpdate.

It also help to have a seperate drive/partition for data like this, so you don't lose it when you F&R.
