Hi, I have an ASUS P5B WiFi motherboard, Core 2 Duo E6400 CPU, (1) 1 gig stick of Corsair value select DDR2 240pin RAM, EVGA 7950GX2 video card, X-Fi extreme sound card, 150 gig Raptor X, NEC DVD burner, 700watt thermaltake toughpower PSU.

My problem is I dont have video when I turn on the screen.

When I first put everythign together, plugged it in and turned it on...nothing on the monitor, the monitor was in sleep mode. So I took out the 7950GX2 and put in my old PCI-e video card (ATI radeon) and again...nothing. So I thought it was the motherboard.

Well I was anxious in trying the video card (7950GX2) so I put it in my old system, which was an Abit A8N AMD that worked fine. I turn on the old computer with the 7950GX2 and nothing, so I tried another monitor, still didnt work. Ok, so maybe it was both the video card and motherboard (7950GX2 and Asus P5B)? I put back the radeon which was originally in the old computer back into the old computer which used to work, and turn it on....NOTHING...AHH!

What do you guys think it could be? I feel like it may have been a faulty video card that is like the touch of death to a motherboard...I am lost as to what it could be. Im afraid to try it the video card in my other compututer (not the Abit A8N but this Asus A8N32-SLI im using) cause if its the video card thats breaking the motherboard I should just replace the video card and motherboard for the new system build. Any advise would be greatly appreciated, please help.

The only case I've heard of where a video card can damage a motherboard is with wrong voltage AGP 1x/2x/4x cards. If the card has a huge power draw, it could overstress a marginal power supply.

Suggest you find out if the A8N is dead and not just dazed. Remove the CMOS jumper, reconnect power cables, see if it comes up.

RMA! Last I heard eVGA was fairlly good about this, other than that IDK. I do agree with ^^^, reset the A8N (clear the CMOS) and see what happens. I don't know that the card would be killing boards, I havn't heard that, but there is a first for everything. That TT Toughpower should be able to handle it ok too. Did it do anything when you turned it on, ie did it start but not display any video? As for the Asus, strange, clear and try again, or RMA! That is rough though man, that is a nice build to not have working. I have never experianced that, even with my picky and prissy DFI Ultra-D. I think I would be for clearing the CMOS, pluging everything in, double checking EVERYTHING, give it one more shot, then RMA, but this is just me.

Restore the A8N with all the old parts and see if it works, then do the same to the Asus but with the card from the A8N as long as it works. If the Asus magicly decides to work with the other card then it is the GX2. If the Asus still does nothing but the A8N works then it could be the Asus or the Asus and the GX2. If nothing works...well then I'm sorry that you killed your A8N, and that your brand new C2D sys doesn't work.
