Today i started working on the Metal for the stealthing part..
For some things a Darley is a great tool to use..
http://ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker14.jpg
To cut the steel ….
http://ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker15.jpg
Draw it and then polishing it.
http://ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker16.jpg
The First piece out...
http://ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker17.jpg
Next the cutout for the radiator.
http://ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker18.jpg
This one went quickly too.
http://ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker19.jpg
http://ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker20.jpg
And then to the angle folder ,
http://ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker21.jpg
Nice fit. Now the last part. :worried:
http://ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker22.jpg
And that went great too. :hip:
http://ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker23.jpg
Now prepare for the worst job. Galvanised metal is real bad for your health to welt. Normaly I don’t prefer to do it like this , but was no other option.
http://ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker24.jpg
Some wires in between for the front opening.
http://ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker25.jpg
Welded togheter.
http://ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker26.jpg
Its difficult to welt 1,5 mm metal with a 1,2 mm wire
http://ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker27.jpg
But the polishing machines are doing a good job. :thumb:
http://ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker28.jpg
Next fase holes for powersupply and watercooling.
But before the next fase we must know of its fit.

Today we continue with the front , stil waiting for some parts , but will be there tomorrow.
This is what we want, the plexi underneath , and in front a metal plate.

Wow. That is one of the best Stacker mods I have seen in a long while. Each time you started doing something new I thought you were going to do something that would make it look bad, but every time it turned out looking great.
Just one question though, what are your plans for a CD/DVD drive now that you have that large steel plate on the front? Are you going to cut a hole in it or use an external CD/DVD drive and connect via USB at the back?

http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker153.jpg
See ya tomorrow:P
Snakez, I'm surprised you're not using holesaws on your (Ediejo's?) drill press to cut all those holes!?! ...especially in the acrylic and any aluminium or thin sheet metal. At least five, maybe 6 (from small to large) of those holes above could also be cut into your sheet metal fairly easily too, depending on its thickness.
Also, I was glad to see you started using the bench saw to cut your straight edges/rectangular pieces. Reading through your worklog I kept thinking, why are you using the fret(?) saw for those straight lines... operating in a well equiped workshop and all) ;)
[Tip for anyone, never try to use a 'drop saw' method (need to check correct terminology--lowering your workpiece onto the blade for internal cuts, which can be done quite easily but with great care using wood) on acrylic using your bench saw!!! Things'll fly, people'll get hurt, and least... your workpiece will be ruined. Fortunately, I didn't get hurt ;)]
btw, I'm working on a 'Lab PSU' to start experimenting with 'LEDs behind acrylic/grills/MeshX' combos for my front panel, inspired by your LED lit acrylic behind grills (e.g., top rad).
Keep up the good work and inspiration. :)

wow i am speechless.
Hey guys, I'm struggling to replicate the lighting effects of the LEDs under the plexi. Can you give me some details i.e., size, colour, luminosity/brighness? Also, are the LEDs recessed within the plexi or sitting just below? I'm guessing they're recessed a little at least because it the plexi sits flat on the top of the case and the LEDs must be protruding through a little. To increase the intensity and spread of the light, have applied any reflective surface/finish to the underside of the stacker badge thingy (top, front)?
Hopefully you won't mind sharing these details with me. I really want to achieve the same effect but I am using darker, purple and black tinted acrylic, which may be the main problem.

No problem, maybe Snakez can give you the details about the led's. I am very busy. He ordered also the led’s

Great modding skills. I wish I had as many tools as you do.
Few airflow questions though. The fan blowing onto the HDs at the bottom front of your case, where is that air being exhausted? Looked like you duct it to you PSU, but your PSU has a 120mm type fan.
Also, all the fans for your mobo compartment look like they're exhausting, where is the fresh air coming in? From your pics look like you have the fans on the rad sucking air off it.
But other the the airflow, nice work.

And put the rest in varnisch.

And got a little visitor , look on top front plate between the holes.

A ………..FLY
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker243.jpg

http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker250.jpg
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker251.jpg
Then continue on the front , prepare the holes for the reservoir.
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker244.jpg
Once one is on it's place , do the rest with the drill
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker245.jpg
The holes fit.
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker246.jpg

http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker248.jpg
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker249.jpg
Because we couldn't wait to see how it looks , we where to fast with building it up again , and we damaged the paintjob on the top front piece.
So lets start over tomorrow.

We have 2 weeks more time left now , so why not use them. :)

After having taken a little rest friday and saterday, the batteries where charged again. That meant starting one hell of a job Sunday morning.:
Placing 25 LEDs, connecting them, ánd solving another big problem. The Musketeer wouldn’t fit.
The start: the protection tubes for the LEDs.
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker325.jpg
Putting the LEDs in
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker328.jpg
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker325.jpg
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker327.jpg
Outlining the extra holes in the plexiglass:.
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker326.jpg
Solder away!
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker329.jpg
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker330.jpg
And then we have thirty wires:.
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker331.jpg
This really is a delicate job… ;)
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker332.jpg
The we have the big problem. It seems the connections for the sound are too long, so now the Musketeer doesn’t fit for the second time in a row.
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker333.jpg
So what I did is cutting of the connectors (first looked where the plus and min of the sound are and the desolder…
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker335.jpg
Then we drill the holes in the circuit board.
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker334.jpg
Where once the connector was are now three wires.
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker336.jpg
Cut them of and it looks just fine ;).
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker337.jpg
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker338.jpg
Did you think i was ready? Not realy, the power connector had to go off too.
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker340.jpg
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker339.jpg
So you see, for every problem we have a solution. The Musketeer is in place and doesn’t have to come out ever again!
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker341.jpg
No, Ediejo isnt ready with the solder iron yet. This site isn’t thát much….
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker342.jpg
But the other side…
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker343.jpg
To be clear, that big bunch down there too… ;)
Later on you won’t see much of it anymore ;)
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker344.jpg
The oc-press tube (http://www.oc-shop.nl) barely fits through the holes, but it fits just right!
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker345.jpg
This is everything of wiring that will be in sight. The two wires for the sound in and out of the Musketeer and the two black/red wires for the light of the Musketeer and harddrive will fit nicely behind the motherboard.
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker346.jpg
After a twelve hour day in my moddingroom i think it’s enough for today. Tomorrow more soldering and if everything goes right we’ll finish building Tuesday. But then everything has to go right.. or else Wednesday is another day ;)

A small update today because of a small issue which delayed the whole lot a bit (with a size of approx. 5mm ;)
I looks like all leds are operational …..
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker347.jpg
With exception of one ;) because the stock is gone, all leds are used and there is still one which needs to be replaced.
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker348.jpg
This is the guilty one , the pain in the ass, it’s already removed but now we need to replace it with a new one and you can be assured that it’s not easy because of its location.
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker349.jpg
It it’s not easy to spot, but to get the perfect result it must be replaced …
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker350.jpg
The case fans who provide the wanted result, the produced light is superb.
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker351.jpg
A shot with the side panel. As you can see the number of led’s did not change, due to the fact that the resistors are changed the leds produced more light then they suppose to do. This will have a negative impact on the life/endurance of the leds, that why we swapped the resistors which decreased the brightness of the leds but improved the life. That’s also the reason that now more leds are used to get the same result.
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker352.jpg
Tomorrow my Canon 350D should be ready after it needed to have some repair. This means the quality of the photos will improve dramatically. The Fuji camera which I used today is not able to cope with the UV light …..

After that started on exchanging the led that doesn't work. To get there the whole stealthing plate needed to go out again. What a job.
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker356.jpg
De top led is changed in a few minutes. Now i can start working on hiding all the wires. And even when it takes 2 days for the led to arrive , it doesn't matter . Still enoght work to do.
http://www.ediejo.dnrhosting.nl/Casemods/Stacker/stacker357.jpg
Cool , fans not working lighting up like that.:)

He's fine like this for today , back again tommorow.

hmm that is the bad thing about all this, if something doesn't work right or goes bad it is a pain to replace....
Ediejo
11-07-2006, 02:52 PM
@SparkyJJO, Yes, that’s right. But if your building a normal p.c. the job is done in 30 min max. The job to build the case like this takes about 100 ore more hours. So I take the pain to replace. ;)

nice work on the stacker project. Have you thought about making cover panels that would cover the area beside the drive area. I know that the side panels hide the wiring when they are on, but the cover panels would hide the wiring when the side panels are off. giving it an extremly slick stealth, and finished look. just a thought.

@SparkyJJO, no the stacker830 is standing by Snakez. And there is also a little problem during this casemod we find out that it is very hard to cooperate with each other. So before the casemod was finish to cooperation between Snakez and Ediejo is over. I do the work and Snakez take the honour and he is the men. I think Snake will mod the 830 by himself.
