View Full Version : So I picked my air cooling...

I ended up going with the Thermalright XP-90 (because it was on sale for $29.99) cooled by a 80mm Thermaltake Smart Case II. I liked this fan because it has a variable speed adjustment and since my case will have an extra built in fan control, I figured I'd be able to hook that up to it, so when I have a heavy load, I can just up the fan speed. :)

As for the heatsink. I know it's not the best option, but from what I understand it's very good (at least much better than the stock heatsink). It's also not too heavy and not too big, which I like.

I'll be putting it all together next weekend (after all the parts arrive) and I'll post my OC and temp results when I'm done. That is, if I can get temp results... I don't really know how. I didn't buy a display, so I hope that there is some kind of software and something I bought has a stock thermometer. Oh, well... I post OC results, anyway.

It was the cheapest retail price I could find from a reputable store. I don't give my CC number out to anyone...

www.jab-tech.com xp90 for $25 i think..

Don't go with the 80mm tt silent. Strap on a 120 to the xp90. It's possible, I do that. Use the 80mm fan clips on the upper set of holes, and it'll fit almost perfectly. I recommend the Yate Loon D12SL12. It can be fan controller'd too. Starts at <5v, no clicking rattling or shaking, just smooth action, and it's cheap.

I already ordered... too late. Oh well, I'll try it out.

My only concern, now is that I ordered from xoxide.com. :/ Does anyone know that they're safe? I heard they're recommended, but now I found out their webmaster address is Herman@xoxide.com. :/ That can't be good. Oh, well... if he steals my credit card number he'd be getting all of about $10 left in it. :p

As for putting a 120mm fan on... I'm new to building PCs, so I'm not ready to try anything even slightly abnormal, yet. I'll consider trying this, though. When I get more experienced in building, I'll try a hand in modding. I'm actually interested in modding the case I'm buying down the road. I'll post my idea in the case modding forum here (which I assume there is one).
