They're not right at all. Maybe they worked on RC1, they don't on RC2.

On my system first restart after installing I got into XP, on the second I started getting a BSOD on boot - the culprit, one atikmdag.sys.

Did some searches and I see this is popping up a bit.

The built-in XP drivers are fine for running Aero...But not so fine if you have a quirky monitor like my Samsung 204b, for which I have to use "Reduce DVI Frequency on High-Res Displays" in Catalyst, otherwise at 1600x1200 my monitor flashes on and off constantly.

I really don't see how they'll have this crap ready by February or whatever the current date is...

Vista still having problems I think with Marvell onboard Ethernet too, but in RC2 it was working fine for me.

oh - and I know you're going to try to install them anyway, you can get back into Vista and uninstall them by using "Last Good configuration." However the ATI uninstaller doesn't work, you have to use the Add/Remove programs to get rid of Catalyst, then you can manually kill the device drivers.

*Sigh* you installed a driver blatantly labelled RC1 and you downloaded it for RC2 there was always going to be some risk involved... I have had no problems with any of my setup whatsoever on RC2, even my audigy 2ZS works without a hitch. Why is everyone bashing Vista?! I honestly can't see a thing wrong with it.. and just to prove my point this is a log of all the errors that have occurred with me on Vista:

Note that there has not been a single problem with Vista that is not application or driver related. I bet XP wouldn't even get away with that :S

Uh yeah, I know...Figured I'd give it a shot. I was just posting a warning so other people don't waste time with them right now.

You're right as far as I can tell all problems are driver related - but that is what an OS is supposed to do. Providing an interface to hardware is what an OS is.

I think it is good Microsoft wants all drivers to be certified now though - but I really think most software providers won't be ready therefore many people will have many problems when it comes out. But it seems to have been good with my onboard stuff- the Intel I8chr and Jmicron, even though I have Jmicron in AHCI mode (which seems to be slowing it down to a crawl actually.)

Did I mention the Microsoft HD audio drivers work with the p5b deluxe onboard sound, however it has the front and rear ports reversed? Pretty funny error that, thus they only work in sound recorder, not in Skype or anything else. That one might be obscure enough that I should report it somewhere...

yeah I completely understand the point of your post I just wanted to make sure that you are aware that all the drivers are not going to work with Vista and its actually the hardware manufacturers fault for not getting new drivers out soon enough. I imagine once the drivers are sorted on Vista a lot of eXtreme overclockers will move over to this OS :).
