View Full Version : K8L: 65nm or 45nm?
Just a quick question, will K8L be on 65nm or 45nm?

At release it will be 65nm, later on it will probably go to 45nm but were talking at least a year.
And it's coming out.....when? H1 2007?

early Q1 by the looks of it :)
I`m sorry but...
Is Q1... Q1 calander, or Q1 financial?
Thanks!
K
Ok, one last question: Will it be quad core only or will there be two variations of it, dual and quad?

K8L is launching Q3 2007. It will be 65nm and there is NO confirmed plan to shrink it to 45nm...AMD has announced that it will be going 45nm in mid 2008 but ZERO indication on whether it will be a shrink or a completely new architecture.
It will be able available in Quad Core Models with 2MB L3 (Codename Altair), Dual Core with 2MB L3 (Antares Codename) and Dual core with no L3 (Arcturus).

AMD operates on calander year, so their CY and FY are the same.

amd doesnt like going to new architectures with a new process, so it will most likely still be k8l on 45nm initially and k10 following a few months later. that is if amd gets 45nm off on time, which it might for the first time in at least a long while if ever, since fab30 is going to start the switch very soon i would assume, probably around k8l's launch.

It's an industry wide standard practice to not implementing a new architecture on a new process, as that had always result in disastors (see Xilinx for their initial 90nm Vertex 4 families)
