would sandblasting be a viable option for stripping a poorly painted case?or would it pit the aluminum/create low spots?ive got access to a sandblasting machine at a local school(theyll do it for free).also would it be wise to set up some type of paint room to avoid dirt and dust issues?im thinking about tacking some plastic sheets to the basement ceiling letting them hang down around the area ill be painting in and taping the edges closed.<---ive had real trouble trying to get a nice uniform finish in the past because of dust.

I guess it would, I'd just be careful to wear a gas mask so that you do not get Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcaniconiosis (Silicosis), from the inhilation of silicon that people receive from sandblasting.

Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcaniconiosis
Could you pronounce that for me? :D

Indeed. I am in no way going to pronounce that, but wearing a mask seems the right thing to do when doing such a thing. All the small dust particles are a sure way to give you a good headache if you inhale them. Let alone what health issues on your longues this could have...

well the unit is actually self contained.theres a pair of heavy duty gloves they put on to handle the material.it also has a ventilation system that pulls all of the material out of the box while its blasting(verry loud).the best way to describe it is to picture the clear boxes you see scientists use to handle hazardous/dangerous materials.its designed for smallish car parts.thus the worry of having a severely pitted case afterwards lol.
its really cool to watch them strip a car part down to bare metal within a few minutes.its also free and i hate sanding so...i think ill give it a shot.ill let you all know how it goes.

Just take all the bits out of your case first ;)
Aluminium would take the strain easily, but you might want a a few more coats of paint when you re-do it.
