Thermaltake Toughpower 750W OR Silverstone SST-ST75ZF 750W???

There are several reviews out for both of these Power Supplies. I am wondering which power supplies you guru's think is better.

On the one hand, the Silverstone 750W is said to be "quad SLI certified" on Nvidia's website. Its also said to actually be able to output an actual 900Watts if needed.

On the other hand its voltage tolerances are + - 5% while the thermaltakes are better at +- 3%. The thermaltake looks nicer on the outside and is probably a little bit quieter. The specs appear similiar but maybe a little better on the thermaltakes side??? Correct me If I am wrong.

They are both about the same price. Both are said to be monsters. The silverstone just being a little less "well known" I think. There are many reviews on both. Just google them. Newegg has the Silverstone priced about $25 higher but I can get both for around $165.

EDIT:: They are both said to be quad sli certified.

What do the guru's think! And please don't say "PC Power and Cooling" because they are louder and much more expensive. I am just wanting to compare these two power supplies or other suggestions in the $165 price range.

Why would you vote for the silverstone?

I had 2 thermaltake PSU die on me in less then a year. It's the brand name and and not the model I dont like.

The Toughpower may very well be a soild PSU, but as mentioned thermaltake soured me to there PSU line. Hence it's a bias opinion.

Thermaltake have never been really known for high quality, more plastic bits stuck randomly on cases...

Silverstone would probs be safer.

Personally, the only thing i've had from thermaltake is the Smart Case Fan II...which... i love:P

edit: then again..they are like...relabed panaflos or something like that:P

What i am really asking for is opinions based on the actual specs on these two power supplies. Why would the silverstone be safer based upon its specs?

Based upon objective reasoning, which has better specs all things considered?

I think they're both probably surprisingly similar.

If you had to, only based on specs, which would you choose and why? (aside from reputation)

I installed a Toughpower 750W in my primary gaming machine this weekend. It worked (which I would expect, of course). It seemed to be of very good quality. Nothing cheap about it. Can't comment as to its lifespan at this point but first impressions are good.

I had a similar experience sometime back with the Tt PSUs hence have avoided their makes since... moved to Enermax Coolergiant until the kit changes and loading become too much for them (mainly the GPU updates)

I now have two of the ST75ZF's and they are quiet plus and so far able to deal with the loading of all that is being dealt to it.

The new Tt's may well be OK, prob. built by ToPower, but once bitten twice shy...

Also look at the newer ST85ZF ....

How loud do they get under load? I know that they are a minimum of 25db. How much DB do you think they are under load? 40, 50? What are you loading it with by the way?

Thanks.

Read the reviews, the Silverstone is better. They are known for reliability and stability.

Check out the reviews of both PSUs

General Hardware > PSU's.

Anyway, what about the OCZ GameXStream 700w? That's one hell of a PSU.

Isn't the ripple sort of a problem on those PSUs?

The fan is quiet, in fact I cannot hear it over the Vapo... but even with the other unit which has simple water, these other fans are louder than the PSU... I don't have a DBa meter so cannot meaure for you, however these units are good for 24/7 and still watch your movies.

One unit is driving an X6800 (4.5Ghz), 7950GX2, 4xSATA HDD's, Optical drive plus a few other fans.

The other is on a DFI, X2 3800 (2.8GHz), BH modules (3.5v), 7900GT, 4XSATA HDD's, Simple Water-Pump/Fans and some more fans.

Of course there are other good PSUs out there that will also meet fit your requirements too ...

I'll back you up on that note it's the current powersupply i'm using for the system in sig. I've had it for about 3months now running 24/7 no hiccups

good find my friend. Seems to be pretty decent. BFG has awesome RMA structure. I called once and had my RMA number within 5 minutes. Literally, there were no questions asked. I said "it doesn't work", he said "ok, I am generating an RMA number for you". It was great.
