Internet search leader Google is in talks to acquire the popular online video site YouTube for about $1.6 billion, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday, citing a person familiar with the matter.

You tube is crazy huge! I mean real huge. Instead of watching t.v., people go watch youtube:p:
It would make sense though. I guess Google wants to expand its video archive or something like that.

I wonder if google ultimately wants to compete with Microsoft. In any case, I'm sorta afraid of google taking over everything, you know? They are getting rather powerful. Now don't get me wrong, I love google and what it offers. I am just somewhat concerned.
Fortunately they have not become "evil" yet.

I think Google is acquiring YouTube mainly to keep Microsoft and Yahoo from buying it. It's a strategic move to prevent others from capitalizing on the online video craze. $1.65 billion in stock is nothing for Google which has a market value of over $130 billion.
There's also the belief that video will be the new way to generate more advertising dollars. YouTube has almost 47% of the online-video audience. That's more than twice that of MySpace Videos.
Now, on the negative side, YouTube hasn't been very successful at making money. Google, on the other hand, makes tons of $$$.
The interesting thing about YouTube is that it was started in a garage in Menlo Park. Hewlett-Packard was started in a garage in nearby Palo Alto. And I believe Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak built the first Apples in a garage. So garages pay an important role in tech history.:D

Actually it makes sense when you think about it. If you're starting a business, where else are you going to assemble stuff?
The founders of YouTube must be popping the champagne corks tonight. YouTube has been in existence for only a year and a half.
