ASUSTeK Computer Inc. (ASUS) today introduced the MW221U 22" widescreen LCD monitor, which incorporated a wide viewing angle, Trace Free Technology to accelerate grey-to-grey response time to 2ms, and DVI input with High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) support. A 20-inch widescreen solution, MW201U, is now available as well for those who require a smaller display. "The MW widescreen LCD monitor series is the logical step after the release of products with built-in webcam and powerful subwoofers earlier this year," said Vincent Chiou, Director of Display Business Unit. "As the display market migrates towards widescreens, ASUS will introduce two more widescreen series along with the MW series in the fourth quarter, to provide a complete monitor family for different user needs."

The difference being both the LG and the Acer are the same Chi Mei panel (M220Z1-L01) and the Samsung uses a TN-Film panel with 8-bit colour processing.

Not quite sure how Samsung do it, but their TN-III panels are rated for full 16.7m colours as opposed to the 16.2m using dithering on the Chi Mei's.

Assuming Samsung's specs don't lie :p

Well, my sister wanted a bigger monitor and I wanted to try out something new. Really, that Acer was great, on par with Dells 20in. Otherwise I wouldnt of sold it.

Lets be honest 10ms refresh time is about
0.010 seconds per refresh
or
a 100hz refresh rate.

and since the standard user can't detect past 60hz
I see no need for a 2ms refresh rate

the 'quoted' refresh rate means close to nothing, its the real world observation that means the most. ive been looking at dell's 17/19s, how do they do for ghosting? I can get some tasty deals.

Has anybody else got this screen yet ?

I recieved my last week and im noticing ghosting in games when there is a dark area in from of a lighter background. The specs of the screen say "say goodbye to ghosting in games" or similar and that was the reason i went for a TFT over my solid 19" CRT.

Here is (http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=0452935F71813E14 ) a link to a scene in oblivion.

Its about 21 mb, if I run it looped in media player i can see very prominent white ghosting next to the lighthouse and boat. If anyone else has this screen could try it then i could determine whether its faulty or wheher they are all as bad.

The response-time of an LCD-screen is the amount of time it takes for the diode to change its color (usually from grey to white to grey, IIRC), and therefore, you can usually divide 1000 with the response-time, to get the maximum number of FPS you can run without ghosting... it's not comparable to a refresh-rate ;)

I couldn't agree with you more. That is the whole reason I won't get a screen larger than 20" if it has a 1680x1050 or 1600x1200 resolution. The difference between 0.255 and 0.28 is very noticeable.

I don't believe it before i see it.. and the price will also be ALOT higher.. so i wouldn't tell people to wait.. but this screen would still be to expensive to me.. and i don't even want widescreen for the computer.

Yup me too, when the good 24" models come down through next year I will make the switch, but this 22" was a great first LCD (came from CRT) and good to use to get used to widescreen. Not to mention 1/2 the price.

Chi Mei sucks ass.. I've tried out a number of their laptop panels and they are all horrible. In my experience LG/Phillips and Samsung are generally prety good.

LCD-technolohy differs vastly from CRT-technology, so that comparison is not that valid.

60Hz CRT doesn't ghost but even 2ms LCD ghosts. Personally in desktop usage I can see too easily how 5ms panels do ghost very clearly. :I

It isn't valid to check ghosting on the desktop. It behaves differently than it does while in full screen 3D.
