View Full Version : OK, give me a definitive answer on this - Vapochill + R404A...
OK, I've found some R404A..... so I can refill my Vapo Classic, BUT:
Is it just refilling thing or do I need to change the oil too?!?
Cuz from what I've read so far it seems that only the "gas changing" thing should do, but some airconditioner techs from over here told me, that R404A comes with a different oil so I'll need to change the oil too.....
Anybody with the 100% correct answer?!? :toast:

well i have done this on mine.but i used r22 which i changed out.the classic vapo takes 5oz(150ml) of oil.but you dont need to chage to oil if converting to r404a since the unit was built with r134a
this is the temp i got with mine unloaded....as far as i know my conversion is the coldest running vapo classic to date.

So I don't need to change the oil If I want to use the 404a?
Because the Air conditioner guys over here said that I need to change the oil....

R134a and R404a uses the same oil, so you don't need to change that.
If you do change to R404a, just make sure that the compressor has a bit more airflow, cause with R404a the compressor puts out more heat than with R134a.

Yep, I got a great airflow allready, added some 4 80mm FAN on the back of the condenser....

Bowman, very impressive results with the r22 conversion. I am thinking of doing the same with one of my Vapo Classics. If it works well, I will get the other done. Is the r22 better than the r404a for our application??

yeah, i always thought r404a was better, but the r22 conversion seems to get ridiculously cold. I think r404a might stress the compressor too much and therefore result in a temp bottleneck though.

do r404 is colder and you wont have to change the oil.
the r22 i used was for a little playing around.a vapo would never get this cold on a cpu even this one.i would say this one would proberly reach -25c temps on a real chip.-50c was taken unloaded and it ran for about 5min to reach that temp.
