This is a new one on me, and until yesterday the PC was fully functional on the Gigabit wired LAN. Fully meaning, I could see network shares, access the router (thourgh web based interface) surf, and play online games.

TODAY - I can see network resources and hit the router's web based interface, but I can't surf, connect to my mail server(s) or play any online games. Other machines connected to the router are fully functional.

becuase I can still use IE to access my router, I didn't think it would work, but i did it anyway. removed TCP/IP and then re-installed it on all 3 network connections. Nope, it didn't work.

I've tried using the System Restore only to be told my system wasn't able to BE restored from the last date it had a restore point set. I've even uninstalled Norton Anti-Virus, thinking its own protection might be locking things down TO tight. I'm not really impressed with Norton A/V anyway. But, it was only 30 bucks and a download...............

Anyway, anyone ever see this and how the HECK did you fix it?
I guess, the ultimate RELOAD is in order. Which is SOOOOOOOOOO boring:horse:

If you're running a router, try dissabling your windows firewall. Assuming you don't have any ports opened(or maybe a couple small ranges), you will be fine.

Is it DSL / cable ??

Actually, if you can access your router, it means everything network wise is fine...

The problem is your router is having trouble getting a connection to the internet.

1- turn off your router
2- turn off your modem
3- turn on your modem, wait for sync light to be up (connection with ISP)
4- turn on router

If you still have no internet:
1- log in your router
2- check in your router WAN setup (username/password)
3- check in WAN status if you have an ip (there should also be a release / renew button)
4- call your ISP and complain you are not getting an IP

Kinda misread: so other PCs on your network can browse right?

Let me know a little more about your setup, would it be possible you are using two routers?

I would also uninstall Norton, it's really crap and always blocking everything for no reason and blocking outlook etc...

Any firewall (windows norton) would at least let websites go through unless you hit the "block everything" button.....

The Setup:
I have a Cable Modem that is connected to a Linksys DGL-4300.
2 PC's are connected to the router via copper and 2 more are connected using WiFi.
The one PC that was having issues uses a copper connection, and had Windows XP Pro installed packed up to SP2 with all the current updates.

It has always worked fine, until today. None of the other machines running through the router have any kind of 'issues' Just this one - it won't connect to anything outside.

I've reset the router, and the cable modem. First with a power cycle that was mentioned before, and by using the reset button on the rotuer. I even "ipconfig /release" on the PC having the issue and cleared all DNS leases to that machine's MAC in the router to try and FLUSH it from the routers pool.

When all that was said and done............notta.

Linksys does not have a model that goes by DGL-4300. That's a D-Link router. "D-Link Gamer Lounge 4300". A good router also.

I didn't see you even try to power cycle the router, just by unplugging the router power, and then plugging it back in.

Yes, Dlink.
I was in a not quite awake state of mind when i typed that reply.

And i did power cycle the router.

In this order.
Power off ALL comptuers. Power off switch, power off router, power off modem.

Turn on Modem. wait for it to stabilize.
Turn on Router - wait for it to initalize
Turn on SWITCH - wait for it to inizilize
( i have a switch doing UPLINK to the router and have a printer and PCs plugged into the SWITCH) So i only have one long cable and not 3 running all over the room.
TURN ON PCs.
