Before the Motherboard makers had their Core 2 Duo Motherboars ready, the Intel D975XBX Bad Axe was a popular choice among enthusiasts who were lucky enough to obtain samples of Core 2 Duo. With the impending launch of Core 2 Quad in November, Intel unveils the D975XBX2, Bad Axe 2. This is Intel's most liberal move in favour of the enthusiasts. You'll see why... (Pencil Mods Included!)

Very accurate voltage adjustments, high (!) vDimm, great overclockability with Core 2 Quads, and a nice layout... I predict that this mobo will have many fans..

Best Regards :toast:

This is the right way to do it :D
Improve the first version with both hardware and software.

I wonder if BX2 has higher chipset strap like i965 to boot above 400MHz FSB ?
And no words on used volts during the tests and OC

Graceful exit of a crashed system due to aggressive OC

but on a side note, it appears they have done some good work making serious improvements to their design for overclocking

Looks great. I love my Bad Axe. My board does not like much over 420FSB on the 1333 strap, but I run at 400 and 1066 strap. Its perfectly stable. Now just to wait for the low end quad cores.

Well I have the Badaxe1 rev 302 & rev 304. I was hoping they would put solid core alum capacitors on Badaxe2....*sigh*

I hope Intel has a change list (changes from Badaxe1 rev 306 to Badaxe2).

Badaxe 2 is here

433MHz FSB and 2.8v for memory :D

The Intel D975XBX2, Bad Axe 2, is Intel's most liberal (in terms of overclocking) Motherboard made to date. From the little details such as the onboard power button to the generous Memory Voltage offered, the Bad Axe 2 looks a lot more welcoming for enthusiasts... I would say that it is very competitive even against Motherboards from makers which have been catering to the enthusiast market for a long while. While it offers no performance benefits over the BX1, with the exception of the support for EPP Memory, the overclocking ability on this board is looking very good when bundled with a Core 2 Quad processor. It will make very little sense to upgrade from a BX1 or a very decent 975 chipset motherboard to this, but those who are on a more dated platform and are looking for an upgrade should give this a serious thought.

well, badaxe 2 certainly looks full of potential from the preview. hopefully intel will be able to iron out the issues and offer more liberties in BIOS; specifically in areas such as FSB, vcore and fsb voltage... and lastly... nVidia better release their SLI driver for Intel chipsets.... grrrr

that looks like a excellent board, but I sure hope 2 things happen.

1 . they raise the FSB limit from 433... thats alittle too low even for a 975 chipset...

2. the 2.8 volt option makes it to retail. neuter that option, and my own personal interest in the board drops severly.

anyone know if the OC options will be available on regular retail chips without mods?

Ditto, but if its still available retail then I will be very interested

2.8v for memory voltage is very good. 1.6v max for VCore is not. The pencil or VR mod seems like a must. Maybe newer bios versions will offer better VCore options.

yeah umm, do we have to do the OC debug mod in order to overclock??? for badaxe 2

I'll take one as long as the pirce is cheaper than the original Bad Axe was upon launch :stick:
