Does anyone have any suggestions for a psu that is stable and under $80 bucks that isn't noisy? I'm looking at the truepowerII

COOLMAX CP-500T EPS12V 500W Power Supply 115/230 V UL, CSA, TUV - Retail is about $50.

really nice because it comes with 120mm fan, which is quite quiet, it controls the fan speed, which you can override with Low, High or Auto settings.

Coolmax?!?!?!? Are you his enemy? lol

Then again I don't trust sunbeam but they have a decent psu now.

Check the monthly PSU deal from Extreme. It's somewhere around here.

well if you can stretch your budget a little bit, 0 DBa and Virtually no ripple might be an option for you.

I'd suggest putting up a few more dollars and get solid PSU.

After all if it goes it could possibly take other components with it.

Avoid one's with 80mm fan's as these are the louder unit's. (small fan higher rpm=more noise).

You could check pricewatch.com

Thanks for the tips. I'm thinking of buying the zero dba but $100 is a lot :/. The enhance looks really good for $80 but it has 23 dba! Ahhhh

I have 3 17dba fans already and adding in a 23dba wouldn't that make it loud? I had 30dba fans they are not a soft whisper....

ok, lol, i'm trying to understand why's that? i've had two of these PSUs (one for quite some time) and they seem to work well for me. granted, many of coolmax's other models may not be up to par, but this particular model looks okay.

can anyone point me to reviews or feedback that says that i should think about replacing them if needed? thanks!

Well. 17dba for one co and another can be different.

I don't want to start a war on ur thread but

Thermaljunk(take) rates there fans as silent and low dba and are everythign but.

I've heard a few ppl say that that Enhance is pretty decent. I cannot tell you for sure because I've never used it. Also to some ppl quiet is different than to others.

For ex: Yate Loons are the best fans I have ever heard. Some ppl like those sycthe fans but I HATE them. Loud (their strongest one)!

I had yate loon and sycthe middle model and they arn't that quite. It might be that I'm still only 16 and my hearing is a bit better then the older folks.

dba doesn't add
putting two 10dba fans next to each other does NOT make 20dba of noise. but rather 10dba of noise spread over a greater distance

db(a) does add... 10+10=13.

I know it dosn't add to 20dba but dba noise level DOES add. You can't tell me 10 10dba fans will be the same noise level as 1 10dba fan... What taemun sounds right.

I can't remember the exact formula off the top of my head but the combined noise of those 3 fans and the power supply will be somewhere in the region of 24 dba.

taemun
10-04-2006, 08:17 PM
10 fans @ 10dB(a) each will be 20dB(a), 3 @ 10dB(a) will be 14.7dB(a).

Crack out windows calculator (start -> run -> calc), make sure its in scientific mode, and hit 2, then log. This gives 0.30****. Multiply by 10, and you have the 3dB gain. Same for 3 fans etc etc.

db does not add.

the noise will be X db, BUT

the distance at which it is X db will be greater. so if you're used to hearing something softer at 10 feet away you will be able to hear it over a greater distance
